Team Introduction:

The Solutions Team at Oxa is experiencing rapid growth, taking ownership of the entire customer lifecycle to deliver commercially viable autonomous solutions that offer genuine value to our clients. Our team consists of a unique blend of technical and commercial experts with hands-on experience in deploying robotic systems and solving autonomy-related challenges.

As a member of our Solutions Team, you'll have the opportunity to wear many hats, spanning technical tasks across the autonomy stack and collaborating closely with colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Together, we're driven by an unwavering focus on achieving Universal Autonomy and exceeding customer expectations.

Scout, a key service component of our Solutions organization, plays a vital role in capturing essential data before deployment, facilitating effective planning for the deployment of autonomous vehicles driven by Oxa. In addition, Scout provides valuable insights to inform the development of critical features that enhance Oxa Driver's capabilities.

In your role as a Solutions Engineer in the Scout team, you'll be at the forefront of exploring new routes and gathering crucial data. Your responsibilities will include developing end-to-end processes for data capture, sensor configuration, and calibration. You'll play a central role in investigating, assessing, and validating routes of interest in the UK and Europe, providing valuable insights to both internal and external stakeholders.

The Scout team is responsible for:

  • Designing and configuring sensor suites for data collection by Oxa or a customer.
  • Implementing configuration and calibration processes to enable reliable and repeatable data collection.
  • Conducting data collection to fulfill customer requests or identify opportunistic routes for future deployments.
  • Assessing, validating, and qualifying routes for operation of autonomous vehicles driven by Oxa.
  • Generating reports for internal innovation and new feature development, and externally by customers for critical business decisions.
  • Building, upgrading, and maintaining maps for autonomous vehicles.
  • Collaborating with customer liaisons to plan deployments and gather data for future operations.
  • Conducting technical gap analysis and generating new feature requests based on route qualification reports.

Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for managing the Oxa scout sensor and data collection vehicle/kit.
    • Travel to various locations for data collection and route assessment/analysis.
    • Participate in the development of route qualification.
    • Accountable for gaining an understanding of Oxa Driver calibration routine, deploying software, sensing, and networking.
    • Accountable for learning and gaining a technical understanding of Oxa localization and mapping tools.
    • Monitor AV map quality, conduct debugging, tuning, and post-mortem analysis.
    • Work with customers to understand requirements for route analysis and qualification.
    • Responsible for creating and maintaining documentation detailing the scout mapping kit and related processes.
    • Develop a strong understanding of customer use-cases and requirements, proposing opportunistic routes for scouting based on these.
    • Ensure efficient and timely solution delivery by participating in regular sprint and alignment meetings, identifying and addressing any risks, technical gaps, scope creep, or performance-related issues.
    • Collaborate and share knowledge with the wider Oxa team, developing a broad understanding of various autonomy components and tools, and deploying, debugging, and tuning mapping solutions in the field.

Requirements

What you need to succeed:

    • Bachelor’s / MASc degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or robotics.
    • Demonstrated experience in the development, delivery, and deployment of robotics systems.
    • Experience in collecting and analyzing data from cameras, lasers, radars, etc.
    • Experience in calibrating data collection devices, such as cameras, lasers, radars, etc.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to translate customer concepts and requirements into a technical solution or service.
    • Licensed to drive a passenger vehicle in the UK and EU without restriction.

Extra Kudos if you have:

  • The ability to translate customer concepts and requirements into a technical solution or service.
  • Experience in building sensor systems for data collection.
  • Knowledge of, and/or experience working with some of the following:
    • Robotics: localisation, mapping, perception, sensing modalities, or calibration.
    • C++/Python.
    • Linux.
    • System integration.
    • Prototyping.
    • Platform hardware design and configuration

We work 37.5 hours a week, Monday - Friday around core hours of 10:00 - 16:00. This is enough for most; but if you require any extra flexibility we will do what we can to support.
