Why this job matters

The “Telco Capabilities” unit within Digital manages the strategic IT “engine room” systems for the Consumer unit. Telco Capabilities develop and manage the IT systems which underpin business processes like order fulfilment and fault management. At the core of this unit are software platforms like SalesForce Vlocity, Ciena Blue Planet but also a considerable suite of self-build applications, typically Java Spring apps running on AWS cloud. The unit processes all the major telco products relevant to a Consumer including broadband, mobile and TV. The role will involve leading a small technical development team working on a specific capability. The role holder will be responsible for all aspects of the application lifecycle – e.g. requirements, design, development, test and in-life. 

What you’ll be doing

Responsibilities: 

1 – Lead through hands-on development 

2 – Set the technical direction of the team 

3 – Interface into the wider virtual team – designers, testers, delivery 

4 – Develop the team – coach, mentor 

Skills

Essential: 

1 – Recent hands-on Spring development experience – particularly “back-end” Spring development 

2 – Recent experience of Agile test-driven-development using tools like git, Jira and unit and integration testing frameworks 

3 – Recent experience on developing applications for the cloud, ideally AWS 

4 – Recent experience of leading a small development team 

5 – Recent experience of the typical areas involved in application development – e.g. databases, REST APIs, GUIs 

Desirable: 

1 – Experience working in a UK Telco Consumer Product / Technologies domain – e.g. broadband, mobile or TV. 

2 – Experience in working in a virtual team with contributors working remotely, including in India. 

3 – Experience with long-lived workflow – e.g. BPMN workflow engines
