M&E Quantity Surveyor at BT Group

You will play a key role in the strategic design and delivery of BT’s key Tier 1 telephone exchanges, Data Centres and Core Mobile sites.

 

You’ll be Quantity Surveyor supporting the full delivery programme covering all elements associated with M&E projects. Projects includes DNO upgrades and reductions, AC / Standby Power systems, AC infrastructure, DC Power, Cooling, BMS and site construction. 

 

Experienced in Mechanical & Electrical projects to help support the delivery team in the full end to end project and programme delivery. Experience in cost evaluations, cost modelling, monthly valuations, project measuring.

 

Ensure projects are cost effective by helping support the delivery team and PC/PD to find efficient techniques that can reduce our CAPEX investments. Help support best practices, standardisation and other techniques to create programme cost efficiencies.

 

Lead and support post project completion audits.

 

Stakeholder management is crucial to the job, you will produce reports, brief the wider organisation on progress and ensure our suppliers are well informed.

 

You will oversee the end to end delivery programme, providing programme management and structured progress communication to stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Supporting procurement and vetting of subcontractor tenders and packages
  • Carry out monthly valuations
  • Carry out auditing following project completion
  • Support delivery team on audit principles, measuring, assurance against the project costs
  • Cost forecasting, review, monitoring and reporting
  • Support the delivery teams on tracking PO’s and managing cost control within the budgets
  • Prepare and monitor project cash flow forecasts
  • Measuring, valuing and submitting of Variations
  • Support delivery teams on commercial and contractual matters
  • Prepare submit and negotiate project final accounts
  • Management and approval of subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts
  • Ensure business commercial processes are maintained throughout project life-cycle
  • Support in ROI understanding and assessments
  • You will support the delivery of M&E projects across BT’s Telephone exchanges, Data Centre’s and Core Mobile sites – expanding space, power and cooling capacity
  • Ensuring assets are registered in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that Legal and Regulatory compliance is maintained and that BT safe working practices are applied. 
  • Hold regular commercial review meetings with the suppliers and internal BT stakeholders to facilitate progress, supplier performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Produce regular reports detailing the progress and performance of the suppliers against agreed delivery and financial targets.
  • Undertake supplier engagement to ensure that unforeseen issues that could put projects into delay are resolved in the quickest most efficient manner possible, agreeing adjustments to keep projects on track. 
  • Manage supply contracts 
  • Assisting Investment Business Cases
  • Support CAPEX, OWC business cases as part MTP/ MTO

 

Prioritise H&S – To have regard for health and safety, his/her job license and skills as agreed with line manager.
Delivers work with full regard of H&S aspects. Carries out on-site risk assessments giving careful consideration to any hazards before starting work and as the work progresses. Inform manager and record near misses/incidents. Is comfortable challenging and asking others to display their ID passes when on BT premises. Complies with all ISO Audit Requirements, including 14001 and 45001.

What you'll bring

 

Mandatory -

 

  • Experience within M&E Quantity Surveying.
  • Analytical & Problem solving skills.
  • A proven delivery track record of M&E infrastructure project support.
  • Comfortable in developing your expertise into emerging technology areas with minimal training.
  • Ability to deal with multiple competing suppliers.
  • An understanding of commercial litigation and warranty claims.
  • You will have experience of delivering capital and current account programmes of work. 
  • Good stakeholder management and communication skills. 

 

Nice to have

 

  • Ability to effectively manage geographically dispersed people, including matrix management.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into simple explanations.
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Degree or equivalent work experience in Quantity Surveying.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of core network  power, space, and cooling solutions. 
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement.
  • Business expertise in delivering to a business prioritised workstack. 
  • Working with internal and external partners to deliver to quality and time requirements.
