WHAT TO EXPECT

As part of the Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) Logistics team located within the Manufacturing Engineering organisation, you’ll lead the design, development and delivery of logistics processes and solutions for new programmes into our manufacturing plants to enable successful launches of new products. This role will be based in one of our UK sites and with international travel.

 

THE ROLE

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Accountability for the planning, specification, design and delivery of manufacturing logistics equipment, processes and facilities that meet our quality, volume and cost targets.
  • Develop and deliver logistics solutions in close coordination with the relevant plant logistics teams & ME team to enable successful launch of new products, ensuring feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing logistics requirements.
  • Translate the GME Logistics Strategy into deployable initiatives.
  • Lead the GME Logistics team through the vehicle programme submission and change processes from its conception through to final approval.
  • Create or evaluate business cases to increase logistics driven competitive advantage for manufacturing in line with the GME Logistics strategy.
  • Lead or support the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters etc.
  • Drive the Business Planning cycle by playing an active role in the short to long term planning activities.
  • Collaborate across functional areas and Production to overcome challenges and present clear solutions with a strong business case to senior management.
  • Developing and integrating Logistics IT/systems requirements in conjunction with the IT department
  • Promote the logistics agenda within the plants to deliver optimised and considered end-to-end solutions.
  • Lead GME Logistics activity across JLR global plants.
  • Develop a system with ME peers to ensure launch of new Logistics Engineering systems and equipment is robustly delivered to ensure high levels of uptime and quality.

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • Vehicle programme submissions inputs submitted on time and completed to the required programme standard.
  • Logistics solutions for new programmes delivered in accordance with strategic intent, reducing CPU and maximising competitive advantage.
  • Safety best practice applied to all logistics solutions in accordance with legislative and JLR Group Safety requirements.
  • Reduced Co2 impact & energy usage as a result of new logistics technology introductions.
  • An engaged team demonstrated through PULSE and eNPS (Employee Engagement Index and Employee Net Promoter Score)
  • Robust business cases created or supported that are achievable and maximise business benefits.
  • Delivery of standardised solution proposals, designs and implementations across plants and technologies.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Proven people management, strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in design and delivery of both manual equipment and automation technologies in the field of Logistics.
  • Proven experience of deploying best practice Logistics processes to deliver high levels of standardisation.
  • Capability to create a vision and strategy for their direct team as well as functional team members, and lead and manage them to deliver outcomes aligned to the wider business objectives.
  • Experience of management and analysis of data and cost benefits, the production of metrics, the development of plans with defined objectives, and structured problem solving.
  • Strategic and critical thinker.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, especially in the areas of Supply Chain, Warehousing Processes and Linefeed.
  • Ability to drive and facilitate collective workshops.
  • Interest for innovation processes & methodologies
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the materials planning and logistics strategy.
  • Proven track record in delivering results and excellent business acumen.
  • Resilient character, able to work independently - applying rigorous processes and standards.
  • An authentic and results orientated style – able to communicate and inspire such with teams and colleagues.
  • Highly self-motivated and assertive, able to demonstrate confident negotiation, communication and analytical skills.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
 

  • Experience of managing large scale transformation projects across various sites with reporting to Senior Stakeholders in the Business.
  • Knowledge of SAP & IT Infrastructure deployment.
  • Change Management experience.
