Salary: Up to £85,000 dependent upon experience

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

Location: Hybrid working with regular attendance at the Edinburgh office

Security Level: SC

The Role

 

The CAA Pension Scheme (CAAPS) is a defined benefit scheme with over 11,000 members. It ranks in the top 50 pension schemes in the UK based on asset size, £5 billion, held in a separate trustee administered fund. The efficient, risk controlled, and cost-effective management of this scheme is extremely important to the CAA and its members. To this end, the CAA are looking for a Member Services Manager.

 

The main role of the Member Services Manager is to ensure that the Trustee, sponsoring employers (CAA and National Air Traffic Services, NATS Ltd) and members receive an effective and efficient pension administration service and to advise, communicate and implement scheme, regulatory and legislative changes. It is also to make decisions to award and distribute discretionary benefits through powers delegated by the CAAPS Trustee. To achieve this, you will need to provide effective leadership of the Pensions Administration team and work closely with the Trustees, employers, advisers and internal Senior Management team.

 

You will ensure that the pension calculations prepared by the Pensions Department are accurate and wholly compliant with the Scheme’s Rules and legislation, including authorisation of payments and setting up of pensions and online provision of results and be responsible for annual Benefit statements and pension increases and compliance with data protection and GDPR.

 

Furthermore, you will take the lead on member related projects and be responsible for developing and managing member related communications including maintenance and development of the CAAPS website.

About You

 

  • Previous pensions management experience
  • APMI or other relevant professional qualification
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pension issues and pensions legislation affecting DB (and DC) pension schemes and scheme governance
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with timely and effective delivery
  • Clear and effective communication skills, written and oral
  • Team working skills as a leader and a member
  • Good interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • High level of motivation and commitment with customer service orientation
  • Ability to assimilate and assess complex information in high volume and extract, summarise and explain key issues
  • Ability to manage multiple diverse activities to tight and often conflicting deadlines.
  • Good judgement, decision-making and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to understand and interpret Trust Deed and Rules, and legal and regulatory requirements
  • Experience of working under time pressure; adaptability and flexibility.
  • Practical application of technical knowledge
  • Ability to handle confidential information with diplomacy, tact and discretion and deal appropriately with sensitive situations

 

Additional Information

 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

 

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.
