Summary

Develops, coordinates, and implements training and instructional programs for all school bus drivers; Develops and conducts safety programs; Ensures drivers successfully complete all State and District required training/testing; Assists in accident investigation/reporting, safety training follow up as required

Essential Duties

• Develops and implements training schedules for bus driver trainees, bus assistant trainees, and activity drivers
• Prepares and conducts all classroom instructional programs for bus driver trainees, bus assistant trainees to include State required curriculum, CDL written test materials, CDL pre-trip and basic skills requirements, student behavior management, and District policies and procedures
• Develops and conducts safety programs for in-service bus drivers and bus assistant workshops
• Develops and implements classroom, instructional, and hands on remedial training programs for veteran drivers
• Coordinates and implements all hands on pre-trip, range, and basic skills training for bus driver trainees
• Coordinates and ensures all over the road training and testing required by CDL and State Department is successfully implemented
• Plans and coordinates all aspects of the local and county bus driver Road-e-os Ensures State and local mandated documented records are complete and accurate for all bus driver trainees, activity drivers, bus assistant trainees, and veteran drivers
• Assists the supervisors in providing ongoing support to drivers with lesser experience
• Provides safety onsite support and assistance involving accidents, student discipline issues on buses, inspections/evaluation of local school loading zones
• Functions as a bus driver as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification/Licensure

Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License with S, P and air brake endorsements requiredMust hold or be able to attain Certified Instructor Certification through State Department of EducationMust be able to successfully pass State Bus Driver Annual Physical Exam

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years successful experience in transportation required; experience in pupil transportation preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Excellent driving record
• Knowledge of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to safe school bus operation
• Good communication skills both verbal and written
• Good organizational skills

Working Conditions

• Works primarily in indoor environment; remainder of time 20% in outdoor environment
• May require exposure to extreme heat or cold and extreme weather conditions

Physical Demands

• Ability to routinely perform activities such as lifting, bending, sitting, and standing for long periods of time
• May have to lift 50lbs or more if need arises to drive a bus
