What you’ll do
In the role of Special Vehicles Technical Specialist, you’ll join a dynamic team working within the unique and interesting blue light sector. This is a field-based role but you will be expected to attend meetings from time to time in our offices located in Daventry and our headquarters for the UK in Maidenhead. Our focus is simple, to support our Emergency Services customer base, to grow and build the Volvo brand and to develop and support our people.
The position involves direct customer contact and attendance to Police Workshops, and vehicle conversion specialists when necessary. Working with the converters to make sure commissioning work is to Volvo recommended repair standards. Liaising with customer Fleet Management workshops to provide advice on tooling, training, diagnostic and technical information to enable them to keep their fleet operational, reliable, safe and roadworthy.
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Providing full technical support – liaising with customers, VCUK technical help desk, field engineers, customer relations dept, vehicle converters, Volvo retailer network and the factory to support vehicles sold to Emergency Services customers
• Management of complex technical issues which in some circumstances can be unique to the Emergency Services
• Supporting Blue Light Converters by giving technical advice, quality control of conversions and correct repair methods
• Supporting warranty claims and repairs within Police workshops
• Compiling regular workshop newsletters specifically focused and distributed towards blue light workshops
• Attending exhibitions and events representing the Special Vehicles Department
What you‘ll bring
We are looking for someone with a high level of automotive technical experience backed up by a minimum of a Master Technician level qualification. A high degree of innovation and proactivity is required to handle day to day issues through strong relationships with VCUK Technical Helpdesk, Customer Care, suppliers and customers. You must be able to demonstrate great communication skills to be able to build long term partnerships.
You need to:
• Understand customer needs and be able to provide class leading technical support
• Have a high level of technical knowledge to handle concerns and deliver results
• Have strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office, and ability to learn new platforms quickly
• Demonstrate a high level of numeracy and literacy
• Pass Police vetting checks as this is a pre-requisite for this role
Nice to have
• Broad understanding of the UK Emergency Services market, their specific requirements, and knowledge of vehicle conversion market/methods
