Purpose

 

Provide competent and reliable support to the Director, Credit Risk London to ensure the effective management of Credit and Counterparty Risk in the European portfolios.

Governance and Record Keeping - Act as the Secretary to London Credit Committee (LCC) & European Credit Risk Forum (ECRF). Maintaining accurate and timely record keeping of submissions, preparing Agenda’s and completing comprehensive Minutes for these key governance committees.

Provide accurate and timely reporting and monitoring of the London trade floor counterparty risk portfolio.

Assist the Director and Senior Manager, Credit Risk Europe, to ensure that all credit requests are properly analysed and effective decisions and recommendations are made within reasonable time frames.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Prepare and distribute in a timely manner to all committee/forum members an agenda for the meetings to be accompanied by all associated relevant paperwork for committee member’s prior review.
  • To attend LCC and ECRF meetings and record specific discussion points by way of comprehensive minutes.
  • Post meeting to prepare and distribute to LCC / ECRF members minutes of the meeting, accurately recording key points, including in LCC, all challenges to individual proposed credit transactions together with mitigating responses from banking.
  • Maintaining an accurate record of all credit related requests received from the banking teams to ensure such requests are reviewed and discussed at committee to receive appropriate support to proceed / submit to GRM for adjudication and to track progress. Maintain accurate records of all transactions reviewed at LCC whether supported, declined or deferred.
  • Ensure all administrative duties relating to the LCC function are maintained to a high standard to be available for audit or regulatory review as required.

 

Trade Floor Counterparty Risk

  • Provide accurate and timely reporting and monitoring of the London trade floor counterparty risk portfolio.
  • Understand reasons behind all overruns, challenging traders / officers as appropriate.

 

Reporting

  • The preparation and analysis of the credit and counterparty risk portfolios for reporting to the  London Executive Committee and other governance committees.
  • Maintain statistical data and details of credit events to be incorporated into the monthly presentation to the Credit Risk Forum.
  • To generally maintain an awareness of any internal / external credit related issues / events that may have a detrimental effect on the bank’s business and report as necessary.

 

Credit Risk

  • Contribute to the quality of the credit portfolio (both corporate credit risk and trade floor credit risk) by assisting with assessing, evaluation and providing recommendations upon transactions submitted to the London Credit Committee to ensure appropriate local oversight.
  • Assist with monitoring the quality of accounts and providing timely review of all applications and submissions.
  • Develop and maintain an extensive base of industry knowledge.
  • Participate in in a variety of working groups or undertake specific projects, which may be beyond the incumbent’s normal scope of business, as and when required.

 

Experience/Education

 

  • Graduate education in business or related with emphasis in finance, accounting, or business; or commensurate work experience.
  • Strong computer literacy and Excel / Power BI skills
  • Basic experience in a banking or credit capacity.
  • Basic knowledge of the Bank’s risk appetite, lending policies, procedures and practices including local economic, accounting and regulatory requirements for the various specialized industries in the which the Bank’s customers operate an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of loan structures and pricing.
  • Ability to debate the merits and vulnerabilities of a credit application with Banking and European office management, providing recommendations as appropriate.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Be well organized, pro-active, methodical and have a diligent approach to work.
  • Ability to understand financial statements and cash flow analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal, organization and project management skills and ability to work in a fast- paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly process both quantitative and qualitative information and appreciate its potential relevance to Scotiabank.
