Master Control Room Operator at Associated Press

The Associated Press is one of the world’s largest and most trusted sources of independent news and information. Its video business has bureaus in more than 80 countries, and currently distributes global news, sport, entertainment, technology, and lifestyles content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. Video captured by the AP can be seen by over half of the world’s population on any given day.

 

The AP is currently seeking an MCR Operator to work in its London office as part of our Global MCR team.

 

The main responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Operation of the AP MCRs located in London (UK), Washington DC and New York (USA)

  • Supporting the needs and demands of all AP departments using the MCR and associated digital production, distribution, and contribution systems.

  • Quality monitoring of video and audio signals and taking the necessary steps to ensure the highest technical quality.

  • Understanding the AP and its global distribution and contribution networks, and to be able to enact back-up procedures when required.

  • Perform satellite transmission and reception operations to a high standard.

  • Operation of AP’s global fibre network.

  • Report any faults using the correct tools and procedures and assist in fault finding and resolution.

 

Candidates must be a team player and possess excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills, be pro-active and able to work on their own initiative and have technical experience working in a broadcast video production environment.

 

The role is shift based and includes nights.

 

Fluent spoken and written English skills are essential.

 

Candidates should demonstrate experience or knowledge of the following:

 

  • Operational experience within a fast-paced Master control room

  • Knowledge of satellite transmission techniques

  • Experience of Video Production & Content Management systems

  • Experience of file-based production workflows

  • Knowledge of international satellite and fibre networks

 

Knowledge of compression and Video over IP technologies
