About the role

As SHEQ Manager you will ensure that our Eastern Green Link Project operates to the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality through the project lifecycle from development through to completion, continually monitoring and auditing the standards by which the Joint Venture and the supply chain operate.

 

This role is related to our projects based in the UK’s east coast and therefore candidates across the country are welcome that can accommodate the necessary travel to this geography.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements. 

About You

  • Extensive understanding of relevant legislation relating to construction and working knowledge of CDM regulations with relation to Client & PC duties
  • Experience of multi-disciplined major construction projects working to deadlines in a commercial environment and awareness of contract management.
  • NEBOSH Certification

 

Additionally you’ll have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

You’ll likely be managing around 6 people consisting of National Grid permanent and contractor colleagues as well as JV employees, therefore you’ll be keen to motivate, guide and collaborate with these partners.

What you'll do

You’ll be involved in a number of activities including these core duties:

 

  • Supporting the safe delivery of Strategic Infrastructure Projects on behalf of the Project Director/Portfolio SHESQ Manager to cost, time and quality.
  • Interfacing with the contractor(s) for all day to day construction activities, and monitor portfolio progress, collaboratively resolving programme risk escalations on behalf of the Project Director.
  • Reviewing of permit to work systems, the review of the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements and ensuring that the Principal Contractors are pro-active in discharging their duties under CDM regulations across the portfolio.

 

Additional activities may include:

 

Supporting regular site construction meetings with Contractors and ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks to ensure that activities are being managed as per the agreed Construction Phase Plan.

 

Reviewing and implementing improvement initiatives resultant of sensible monitoring of site construction activities and manage the close out of issues raised through SHEQ audit & inspection activities and implementation across the Project(s);

 

Ensuring project compliance of all site documents to ensure compliance with legislation, ensuring they have been subject to formal document control and uploaded to the relevant project document control system(s) in accordance with applicable procedures.

 

Participation in incident investigations and represent the department on incident investigation panels as required including management of IMS and associated actions as necessary.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £60,000 - £68,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
