Description
Working Pattern:
38 hours / 45.2 weeks inclusive of annual leave
To be part of a team of care staff supporting residential students to access the 24 hour curriculum at QAC by working towards set targets to develop student’s independent living skills.
Key Responsibilities
• Understand and respect individual student’s right, choices, personal dignity, privacy and aspirations.
• Support personal care needs of students requiring assistance dressing, toileting and washing.
• Appreciate and comply with CQC Regulations in relation to residential care.
• To administer prescribed Medication and Homely Remedies to Students as required, closely following QAC’s Handling and Administering Medication policy. To immediately act up any medication errors.
• To support students with healthcare needs including, but not limited to, Diabetes and Epilepsy.
• To support students with managing emotional and behavioural needs as per positive support plans and with support of pastoral team.
• Help plan, promote and maintain good care practice and contribute positively to team work through good communication with other residential support staff and attend team meetings.
• To monitor daily support and achievements via the ‘Care Log’ system on Databridge MIS
• Contribute to the implementation of care plans, risk assessments, student reviews, and targets
• To act as a designated key worker working on a 1-1 basis with the student to achieve their targets
• To partake in student progress reviews and support with transition plans for post college
• Liaise with students’ families, where appropriate
• Liaise on a regular basis with College personal tutors and other staff
• Initiate and be involved in students’ leisure activities
• Encourage integration and inclusion into the wider social community
• Maintain effective record systems to a quality standard which complies with internal and external regulations
• Actively partake in professional supervision and attend mandatory training as required
• To have a flexible approach to rota requirements within the remit of service need as directed by Shift Leaders, Assistant Home Manager and the Home Manager, including sleep ins on a rota basis(for which there is an additional nightly payment)
• To work under the guidance of the Shift Leaders, Assistant Home Manager and Home Manager on a day to day basis
• Become familiar with all policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Student Complaints procedures, First Aid and Safeguarding.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
To hold a Level 2 in Health & Social Care
(Or willingness to complete this qualification when starting the role)
Skills and ExpertiseExcellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Good standard of IT skills, including Microsoft word and email systems
Caring, understanding and nurturing individual
An individual keen to develop into the role and attend training
Experience and KnowledgeHave the ability to communicate clearly with people with support needs
Experience of supporting a team
Experience with planning leisure activities
General knowledge of CQC’s Key Lines of Enquiry
Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
Experience of working within a CQC registered care setting
To have a flexible approach to the job role
Experience of maintaining clear and accurate records
Understanding of the Mental Capacity act
