Job Description
About the role
We are looking for a Software Engineer with a passion for applying Machine Learning and AI to real world problems to join Wise’s Machine Learning Platform team.
The Machine Learning Platform team has the mission to provide a strong Machine Learning and Data Science capability by maintaining a platform that enables turning ideas into production with absolute minimum effort, uses latest industry technologies, solutions and best practices, and that is widely accessible to people within our organisation.
We also believe strongly that Machine Learning can bring huge value to Wise’s customers and that we still have a long way to go to spread our capabilities throughout the company. You will work directly with other teams to integrate ML/AI solutions into their services and products, be they Large Language Model or traditional ML based. In doing this, we will also gain valuable insights which will guide us in improving our Machine Learning Platform, and so continue to delight our internal users.
As an international Financial Services company, we also have the responsibility to keep our customers’ money and data safe. The Machine Learning Platform team plays a critical role in this - by helping our Engineers, Data Scientists and Analysts work with AI safely and ensure that best practices are always applied. To do this we work closely with the other teams building out the Data Platform, and with the wider Platform organisation to build out the required guardrails.
Who we are looking for

Skills can, of course, be learned but ideally you have some of the following:
Experience in Software Engineering, particularly on the backend and in data intensive applications
Up to date knowledge of SWE best practices, great testing ethic, good documentation skills and enthusiastic to evangelise for best practices and quality
Worked with one or more languages from Python, Java, Javascript (not all required but as much as possible is helpful - our stack is a mixture of these three)
Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
Interest in ML, Large Language Models, Prompt Engineering and their applications
Great communication and interpersonal skills, empathy, and a desire to share your knowledge
A drive to learn
Nice to have:
Experience in building self-service tooling that helps engineers, analysts or data scientists do their job more efficiently
Knowledge/interest in payment platforms, foreign exchange & highly complex systems

What do we offer:
Starting salary: £80,000-£115,000 + RSU
