Job Descrption

The role

We are currently looking for a Continental Shift Engineer to join our Engineering Team at our Distribution Centre in Burnley.

You will be looking after a semi-automated distribution centre, making sure we can deliver the best possible service to our customers. It is a brand new site with further development in the pipeline that will keep us busy for years to come!

Shift Pattern: Panama/Caravan Shift. The Panama shift pattern or ‘caravan shift’, uses four teams across two twelve-hour shifts. This shift pattern provides complete coverage over a 24-hour period days and nights. Boohoo engineering teams cover 24hrs one week and the following week 60hrs rotation - averaging out at 42hrs per week per team.

Our Engineering department is where we all come together to fix, maintain and keep the gears turning on our state of the art automation to deliver a fantastic and well-oiled service to our customers. We process on average 250,000 units per day! However, at peak, we smash this record and process an astonishing average of around 600,000 units per day – that’s 417 units per minute! At times, this can be challenging but as a ‘family’, we pull it all together and enjoy the success together!

What you’ll be doing

  • Carry out the daily maintenance tasks expected of you, delivered by either the assistant Team Leader or the Team Leader directly.
  • To ensure all daily planned and routine work is completed to a quality standard.
  • Ensure that all breakdowns are attended to and rectified in a timely, safe manner, causing minimum downtime of machinery in line with departmental KPI’s.
  • Work with the Assistant Team Leader to promote Continuous Improvement and change through new and existing initiatives, as well as recommend change to effectively benefit the business.
  • Keep in line with relevant Health and Safety regulations and ensure safe systems of work are adhered to.
  • Work with contractors when they attend site when necessary.
  • Assist with implementation of new engineering equipment with the third party supplier.
  • Help with the creation of effective planned preventative maintenance programme.
  • To maintain effective records procedures.
  • To assist with training new and existing staff members on specialist skills and experience to effectively benefit the team’s growth.
  • Help the Assistant Team Leader to manage any project workload as required.
  • Work as part of a holistic team, contributing to new team mentality and growth daily.
  • Must prevent disruption wherever possible, to aid business critical functions across the operation.
  • Prioritise and allocate personal workload for reactive, proactive and planned maintenance.

More about you

  • A strong background in multi-skilled engineering with electrical or mechanical bias Engineering, Manufacturing, FMCG, Warehousing and/or Distribution based industry exposure.
  • Prior Automation/Conveyor experience.
  • NVQ Level 3, BTEC, ONC, required.
  • HNC or HND desirable.
