The Opportunity:

This position will involve the design and development of a robotic platform for a set of promising clinical robotic applications. The position is full-time for 1 years, with possibility of extension for another year. Strong background in mechanical design, mechatronics, and system integration skills. The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary research group consist of clinicians, engineers, computer scientists, and physicists looking at fundamental advances in design, sensing, machine learning, planning and robot control.  It is expected that the successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in engineering.

This position is part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary project between the Center for Inflammation Research and School of Informatics at University of Edinburgh.  This project aims to develop robust, flexible, and safe surgical platform for use in lung interventions by making fundamental contributions in cognitive mechatronic technologies.

For this we need to make several fundamental contributions to existing mechatronic technologies, i.e., a combination of better machines, modular designs as well as a better sensing and awareness.
