About the client....

Philip Morris International (PMI) is a company in the midst of transformation. Originally founded in 1847, PMI are building our future on replacing cigarettes with smoke-free products that—while not risk-free—are a better alternative than cigarette smoking. It’s the biggest shift in PMI’s history. And it’s the right one for consumers and society.

PMI have recently transformed their marketing and media organisations towards greater centralisation, they are looking to enhance and scale the quality and delivery in every market.  As PMI’s recently appointed agency of record, we are excited to help PMI on their transformational journey.  They see communications as a transformation engine and we, as Publicis, are in a prime position to deliver this as we help connect across the key disciplines.

It is a business that is both highly regulated and hugely focused on transformation. The organization is investing heavily in a “smoke-free future”, a move that will see over 50% of their revenue coming from Smokeless by 2025. This accounts for a significant growth opportunity for the organization, both with PMI`s Smoke Free Products (SFP) as well as even respiratory drug delivery.

Publicis Groupe partners with PMI in 80+ markets globally, working across Creative, Production/Transcreation, Digital Marketing, CRM/Loyalty, Content, Brand Strategy and eCommerce, with varying remits depending upon the market. In 2023, Publicis Production was named Global Transcreation AOR (effective mid-2023), and Publicis Media was awarded the Global Media, SEO and Social AOR assignment (effective January 2024). Through leveraging our Groupe “Power of One” approach there are now some 500+ people working on the business across the network. There is a central team in Lausanne of 30 people dedicated primarily to the Combustible Cigarette (CC) business, with a few team members in Lausanne support Smoke Free Products (SFP).

There is a significant opportunity for the Groupe to leverage our long-standing relationship with PMI and continue to accelerate and facilitate their own transformation. This role will be critical in leading this - ensuring connectivity across our markets as well as across the channels we support at the Global and Market levels. This role will also lead the charge for engaging with PMI in the growth of their Beyond Nicotine products.

About the role....

As a Business Director, this is an exciting role across one of the largest clients within the agency, and a significant client for Publicis Groupe. Your strong leadership and management skills, combined with strategic direction, will be essential in  developing leading work with senior stakeholders at global, regional and local levels.

Whilst not essential, this role would benefit from someone who has experience within the tobacco or regulated categories, being mindful of different market archetypes and restrictions and more importantly, the impact and opportunities this creates for PMI.  This role will require you to work across all regions, overseeing the quality of delivery, both strategically and operationally, with a focus on supporting global PMI stakeholders.

The candidate will also work closely with the Global Transformation Lead, supporting their efforts to bridge the connection across Paid Media, Social, SEO and transcreation.  As a Power Of One client, we remain focused on delivering one connected experience in how we work with PMI, and the consumer experiences we deliver to audiences.

About the work....

 

  • Serve as the client-facing leader for paid media and transformation initiatives for PMI`s Smoke Free Product (SFP) business, as well as PMIs Beyond Nicotine Products.
  • Work with the Global Media Lead to identify and operationalise new process and approaches to drive further transformation and connectivity across the global PMI business.
  • Liaison with agencies and teams across the Publicis network to both deliver against client needs and identify incremental business opportunities. 
  • Deliver solution crafting for key challenges that arise related to client business needs, identifying and operationalising agency structures and approaches to successfully tackle these challenges.
  • Support the integration of new channels, including AI
  • Work to develop and grow Publicis support of PMIs Beyond Nicotine products 
  • Support business plan development and new business operations, engaging with the GCL and Global discipline leads

Strong Commercial Acumen Business orientated, excellent at identifying opportunities and driving growth.

Able to build strong relationships within the Groupe, ensuring that people are fully motivated to deliver.
