Company Description: 

The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) protype fusion plant. UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype. 

Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century. The UK, led by UKIFS, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040. UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year. Employees of UKIFS can be based at either of our sites; West Burton, Nottinghamshire or Culham, Oxfordshire

UKIFS's pay arrangements and grading structure are currently under review as part of a transformation project and proposed multi-year pay deal. UKIFS aims to introduce a new grading structure in 2024. This will enable us to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximise the scientific and economic benefit. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions. 

Salary £46,293

The Role  

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference on a global scale? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Business Case/ Engagement Manager in the field of fusion energy. In this role you will play a pivotal role in engaging with all aspects of the STEP programme as well as managing the programme’s interface with the Government’s assurance and approval processes for project funding and delivery.

Additional Responsibilities:   

  • Develop, implement and track engagement plans for government stakeholders.
  • You will support the Strategy & Engagement Lead and the STEP executive team in their engagement across the public sector and beyond, developing and implementing strategies and plans.
  • Work with the business strategy team to interact with all aspects of the STEP programme to ensure timely commissioning, production and verification of content for Business Case submissions to various Government bodies and committees.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements: 

  • An ability to grasp issues quickly and understand the big picture for Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the wider fusion sector, and government.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence forging relationships across teams and government.
  • Experience of working with Government stakeholders on large scale complex transformative programmes.
