The Position:
The Assistant Director of Human Resources will have a sound background in human resources policies, procedures, and practices and a strong employment relations focus. They must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. The Assistant Director of Human Resources will have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees so that we maintain an environment in which every individual feels respected and valued.

Key Responsibilities:

This following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list.  Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned.  All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

  • Support HR Director with employee relations investigations, grievances, and complaints to enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly.
  • Conduct investigations related to alleged employee misconduct, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct.
  • Collect and compile relevant factual information, interviews witnesses, analyzes and summarizes facts, and provide recommendations that adhere to college policies and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Provide support to faculty and staff on policies, procedures, regulations, processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide support to employees on various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation.
  • Contribute to presentation of New Employee Orientation
  • Complete verifications of employment, Unemployment and Worker’s Compensation Claims
  • Assist with the Colleges Tuition Assistance and annual Employee Service Awards Program
  • Prepare reports related to Human Resource functions and/or projects.
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form.

Position Requirements:

The Assistant Director of Human Resources will have proven work experience in employment relations, demonstrate knowledge of employment law, have outstanding interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication. They will be highly motivated and have the ability and desire to impact the future of the campus. The successful candidate will be a thought leader, have an affinity for providing exceptional customer-service, and comfortably serve as a champion of the college’s culture and values.   

Position Preferences/Ideal Experience:

  • 1-3 years of Proven experience working in an HR department
  • 1-3 years’ experience in Employee Relations
  • Understanding of general human resources policies
  • Strong problem solving, reporting and analytical skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Working knowledge of Workday
  • Prior experience working in higher education is helpful.

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • An associate degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, additional years of experience (5-8) will be considered in lieu of an associate degree.

Starting Salary Range: $50,000

Classification:  E1
