A DAY IN THE LIFE:

A highly skilled senior team member who develops embedded software for Tandem's insulin pump products. This role will join a team that releases regular software updates containing new platform features, quality improvements, and optimizations for Tandem’s insulin pumps. As one of the most experienced developers on the team, this role will focus not only on software implementation, but also on driving new feature design, improving code architecture, working cross-functionally with other teams, elevating technical capabilities of other team members through mentorship, and modeling Tandem values.

  • Independently designs, develops, and tests software units per corporate software process.
  • Leads and manages assigned projects or initiatives to completion with minimal direction.
  • Enforces strong software engineering practices, concepts, and techniques.
  • Proposes strategic design and architectural changes to advance product platform capabilities.
  • Proactively identifies process improvements, discusses with peers, and implements proposals to address gaps with outlined rollout success metrics.
  • Creates, maintains, and reviews software requirements, design specifications, interface descriptions, and other software documentation.
  • Influences software test strategy and supports validation and verification activities.
  • Responsible for the training, mentoring, and development of other team members.
  • Embraces the Design Control process by leading design reviews and maintaining design history files.
  • Analyzes returned products to determine root cause of failure.
  • Reviews final project documentation for content and accuracy.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
  • May independently manage working interactions with external vendors and resources ensuring that deliverable and timelines are met.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and lead cooperative work efforts between teams.
  • Skilled at defining and translating high-level requirements into software design and implementation.
  • Able to work independently and deliver high quality work product without close supervision.
  • Able to scope, estimate time needed, collaborate with stakeholders, and track development projects.
  • Able to articulate and delegate work assignments to team members.
  • Proficient with formal software development and test methodologies.
  • Proficient knowledge of embedded software architecture and design patterns.
  • Able to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information.
  • Able to effectively convey information related to work product and lead group discussions.
  • Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) preferred.

EXTRA AWESOME:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer sciences or related field or equivalent combination of
     education and applicable job experience.
  • 8 years’ experience in the “C” programming language on embedded devices and real-time operating systems.
  • Proficient experience with embedded software design patterns for low-power consumer devices.
  • Experience with software lifecycle development for medical device software preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $160,000 - $185,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.

Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision, health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts.  You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (starting in year 1) and have access to a 401k plan with company match.  Learn more about Tandem’s benefits here!
