Purpose/Introduction

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Shift Supervisor – MHO at the Cedar Bayou Facility in Baytown, TX. This position will either be assigned to supervise one of the four shifts or provide vacation relief for Shift Supervisors at MHO. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in the Material Handling Departments associated with environmental, safety, quality, production, fixed costs and utilization activities. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership skills to plan, organize, and direct work in and efficient manner. This position reports to the Materials Handling Unit Superintendent.    

Responsibilities

  • Safety and Compliance - The Shift Supervisor is a safety and compliance role model and leader. This individual is accountable for operation of the unit by following the "Tenets of Operation", EHS Procedures, Unit SOPs, Process Safety Management, Operational Excellence Processes and operating within the environmental permit requirements. 
  • Personnel - The Shift Supervisor is responsible for the development of a capable and effective team through training and development of each operator, the on-going evaluation of operator performance, maintaining working relationships among shift members, and consistent administration of plant and company policy.
  • Operations - The Shift Supervisor leads the shift team to operate in accordance with operating plans and good operating practice.  
  • Maintenance - The Shift Supervisor leads the team to ensure that operating equipment is properly operated, monitored, maintained and readied for maintenance. 
  • Communication - The Shift Supervisor maintains open and effective communications on and across shifts within the department, unit leadership, other operating, functional support personnel and on-site contractors. This position must effectively communicate deviations to the operating plans and other work plans (maintenance, projects, etc.) to stakeholders in a timely fashion. 
  • Training - The Shift Supervisor is responsible for working with Training Coordinators to facilitate the training of operators on the shift. This individual monitors training activities and progress to ensure training activities are effective.
  • Quality - The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring product quality is maintained and quality issues are addressed in a timely manner. 

Required Qualifications

  • A High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a chemical and/or refinery manufacturing facility in order to be considered for this position.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Work-Up Supervisor
