Scope of Position:

This position is for a research technician in Optomechanical engineering. The candidate should have various optical characterizations including transmission, reflection, and scattering; experience in setting up, running, testing samples in complex optical systems; and experiences in basic mechanical design and prototyping optical setups. Ideally the candidate should have relevant industrial experience at least 2 years. We are looking for fast learner who has can-do attitude and ability work with dynamic teams.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work with and assist scientists to set-up optical prototypes, carry out Design of Experiments to test prototype performance.
  • Work with and assist scientists to design, set-up and characterize optical properties of optical materials and components and devices.
  • Executes experiments to solve complex problems or develop new processes or products.
  • Document experimental results and provide results and input to in internal research reports, invention disclosures and refereed publications.
  • Collaborates with project team members as well as colleagues from other departments to solve technical problems.
  • Modifies and develops testing processes to improve evaluation of new products or new properties.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Two-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experiences of free space optics.
  • Knowledge and experiences in mechanical design using CAD.
  • Technical writing, and ability to analyze and present data.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and performance testing and characterizations of optical materials and components.
  • Computer literacy, MS office Excel, PowerPoint, and programming skills including Labview, Matlab, etc 6.
  • Effective communication, strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge and experiences in designing and building optical prototypes
  • Knowledge and experiences in programing control system.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Must be a team player
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Independent, requiring minimal day-to-day supervision.

 

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.  

 

The range for this position is  $52,692.00   -  $72,452.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
