Where you fit in
Deal Entry Portal (DEP) is expanding its BA team. Deal Entry Portal or DEP is a web application which imports trades from internal and external exchanges, transforms and enhances the trade data before processing them to the ETRM. It is an user-friendly application built with modern technologies and serves as middleware to the exchanges and the ETRMs. DEP attributes to the time and cost saving of the Oil and Gas traders by optimizing and automating the trader workflows. It has empowered the Shell traders to reach goal zero targets of late deal entry and enables them to concentrate on higher value tasks.
You will work with the paper trading teams with having significant contact with business (up to GM). You are also expected to have to have excellent communication skill, and must be able to quickly understand the art of the possible with our platform and also be able to translate technical discussions of any solution to business-friendly language.
What's the role
As a Business Analyst - Exchange Trading, you are responsible for identifying and documenting the business needs of their clients and stakeholders, and helping to determine feasible solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems. This role will give you the opportunity to grow to become an active thought partner and solution visionary who shapes the technology demand and direction in the business community.
Your further accountabilities include the following:
- Precisely capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements, including health, safety, security, usability, data, and supportability considerations.
- Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options.
- Assess and model processes, data flows, and technology to understand the current value and issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Create clear documentation to communicate requirements and related information; keep updated to align with the solution over the project lifecycle.
- Ensure traceability of requirements from business needs and requirements, through testing and scope changes, to final solution.
- Interact with software suppliers, designers, and developers to understand software limitations, deliver elements of system and database design, and ensure that business requirements and use cases are handled.
- Create acceptance criteria and validate that solutions meet business needs through defining and coordinating testing.
- Create and present compelling business cases to justify solution value and establish approval, funding, and prioritization.
- Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control Business Analysis activities on projects within agreed parameters of cost, time, and quality.
- Support Business Analysts across the programme to help ensure a consistently high level of quality.
- Understand and stay abreast of relevant architectures and technologies related to a business area. Research potential solutions and innovative ideas. Guide and manage interactions with technology vendors.
- Lead stakeholder management activities including facilitation of large design sessions.
- Build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with key business and IT stakeholders.
- Support longer-term business strategic goals through proposing improvements in value, cost, process, data, technology, functionality, and initiating high-level business requirements and feasibility studies to discover options and directions.
- Champion the development of long-term Business Analysis capability within Shell through bringing external perspectives, coaching others about BA techniques, identifying and promoting best practices, and contributing to community building.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from professionals who have solid BA experience on Exchange Trading fundamentals and be able to talk confidently regards types of trades and their compositions.
Further requirements are as follows:
- High level of proven competency and practical work experience performing a Business Analysis role in a Trading environment
- Domain knowledge on trading functionality and trading types
- Knowledge of Exchange Trading fundamentals
- Understanding of Trading ecosystem and Trade Life Cycle
- Experience in creating wireframes, mock-ups using tools like MS Visio, Figma etc.
- Hands-on in creating BA artifacts like Requirement Documents, Use Case Diagram and refining User Stories
- Perform Functional and regression testing
- Understanding of DevOps Concepts
- Good understanding and experience of the various Agile frameworks
- Experience working in Agile projects and educating stakeholders including Product Owners and Business partners in Agile ways of working
- Ability to take a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving and pay close attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to communicate concisely and clearly
- Able to come to the Shell London office at a minimum of twice a week
- Hands-on experience specifically in Gas Trading with indepth knowledge is preferred but not mandatory
- Knowledge of Oil and Gas Contracts in Derivative Trading is preferred
- Basic SQL and API skills
- Knowledge of any ETRMs is advantageous
