Engineering and Commissioning Manager

GSC R&D Engineering Services provides Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC’s Engineering and EHS organisation.

The Engineering and Commissioning Manager is responsible for ensuring that engineering change through projects is controlled in a consistent manner, and aligned to industry best practice, local legislation and GSK standards. The role will provide clear contractual requirements to all project delivery partners on commissioning requirements, inclusive of:

  • Relevant standards to be followed and documentation to be produced.
  • Minimum competency requirements for commissioning team members.

This role will foster a culture of transparency and trust with operations teams, service partners and customers by being present a minimum of 4 days on site per week.

In this role you will:

  • Act as Responsible Person for the commissioning of projects (Minor Works and Capital Projects) across the region – ensuring compliance with GSK standards and best practice. The role will be appointed as Technical Authority for Commissioning and Management of Engineering Drawings.
  • Share best practice and lessons learnt across the sites in the region, including templated commissioning protocols.
  • Govern the project delivery partners for commissioning and turnover, ensuring a right-sized review of information and consequence management.
  • Build communication tools to brief senior management on the sites and delivery partners’ performance against GSK standards for commissioning and drawing management.
  • Building local/regional standards for minimum commissioning requirements for common systems on the sites e.g. HVAC, LEV, Fire Detection systems and provide subject matter expertise in commissioning for complex projects.

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline (Elec, Mech or Chem) 
  • Experience in the design and/or commissioning of projects, maintenance and/or operations in regulated industries (pharmaceuticals, manufacturing or other large industry)
  • Experience of writing and executing commissioning procedures 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master’s degree and membership with relevant chartered organisation
  • Experience managing documentation workflows for projects 
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of change
  • Ability to act as a role model for applying standards to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with key external contract partners, to deliver appropriate site services in agreement with established contracts.
  • Full member (or working towards full membership) of an internationally recognized engineering body.
