Strategy & Governance Director
 

Location: Stevenage, UK or Upper Providence, USA

Foster a culture of transparency and trust with operations teams, service partners and customers a minimum of 3 days on site per week.

GSC R&D Engineering Services provides Facilities Management and Capital Projects delivery for Technical R&D sites within GSC’s Engineering and EHS organization.

The Strategy & Governance Director is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving operational excellence, service delivery and supplier management within the R&D Engineering Services organization. This leader will strategize, define, and execute initiatives to optimize business performance, enhance operational processes, service delivery and lead contract governance to support the strategic objectives for the organization. This position is a critically important role, enabling the Head of R&D Engineering Services to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

As the Strategy & Governance Director, you will be accountable for all R&D Engineering Services site’s performance within US, UK, Spain, Germany, Brasil and Argentina.  The organization serves a population of about 10,000 GSK and other staff in our R&D Campuses globally.  This position must insure WREF uses its funds in the most appropriate manor to keep operating costs at the right level to ensure we operate safe, legal and compliant workspaces.

This role will foster a culture of transparency and trust with operations teams, service partners and customers by being present a minimum of 3 days on site per week.
 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Accountable for designing and executing the organization’s strategy. Ensures alignment to GSC as well as R&D strategy and to customer needs so that all employees, partners, suppliers, and contractors understand the organisation-wide strategic plan and how it helps deliver GSK’s overall goals.
  • Accountable for development of a Global supplier performance management framework across the GSK Enterprise Facility Management (EFM) network that will support senior GSK FM stakeholders manage risk and drive substantial business value through effective contract and collaborative working.
  • Establishes and reviews key strategic priorities and translates them into an actionable and measurable deployment plan. Monitors execution of the plan, ensuring the global regions remain continuously aligned.
  • Using contract management information and business analytics, including benchmarking, develop and monitor the performance, cost and quality of services in all aspects of facilities management to ensure the region performs at its most efficient.
  • Drive the organization’s talent and employee engagement strategy through a structured set of meetings.
  • Support the Head of R&D Engineering Services with customer and supply management at local and national level, ensuring the global CRM owner is kept informed.
  • Partner with Finance and Site Heads to ensure proper management of the site operating costs.  Enable efficient management of budgets and prioritization of spend through effective reporting and resource planning tools.
  • Collaborate with the WREF and Occupancy Planners implementing approved WREF and business group initiatives which affect business group occupancy.
  • Drive global initiatives in the region including, but not limited to, benchmarking, customer feedback programmes and workplace innovations.
  • Enhance business/operational planning and reporting, identifying areas to automate, integrate and optimize.
  • Ensure and facilitate excellent communication with clients, stakeholders and team members; maintain and share all relevant information and/or lessons learned.
  • Manage the onboarding of new sites and deploy the organization’s ways of working including supplier contracts where applicable.

Why you? 

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Holds degree in Business, Science or Engineering
  • Deep experience with supplier management including governance of FM contracts.
  • Experience leading organizational strategy regionally and/or globally.
  • Experience in Facilities and/or Engineering Operations
  • Experience managing OPEX and CAPEX
  • Experience leveraging data analysis and visualization of information for key decision-making.


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Understanding of R&D site operations
  • Demonstrated track record of providing customer service within a large corporate environment.
  • Experience driving Service Provider performance, development and implementation of benchmarking, internal client feedback and innovation programs.  
  • Excellent track record in influencing, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of personal integrity with ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent senior customer relations management experience.
