Department Overview

Our UK Engineering team provides mission critical design, test, and support capabilities that serves our UK emergency service customers.

The overall solution estate comprises of Motorola Public Safety products, Control Room solutions, Video and Security management software and the IT systems supporting Business and Operational management of our Products and Service offerings

This role for an End-to-End (E2E) Architecture Lead shall report into the Head of Architecture and Design that sits within the broader Architecture and Design team responsible for the generation of designs for a wide range of Customer and internal Services.

The successful candidate shall be responsible to manage a team of E2E Architects within the E2E Architecture team which are responsible for ensuring the definition of and conformance to the core end-to-end architecture for the UK Managed Services portfolio.


Job Description

This is a remote role with occasional travel to our UK sites.

The E2E Architecture Lead role shall be a contributing manager, which would include line management duties of a team of E2E Architects, alongside active participation in the program delivery governance working closely with Program leads. The E2E Architecture lead, along with the team of E2E Architects shall take complete ownership of the width of the technology estate, thereby ensuring the serviceability, appropriacy, and currency of technologies underpinning the UK Managed Service business.

Key role responsibilities include, in no specific priority order;

  • Line Management duties of a team of E2E Architects
  • E2E knowledge ownership of the technology estate, this shall include Products, Applications, and Infrastructure in use within UK business
  • Ensuring minimum or no service degradation is caused by the technology underpinning UK Services
  • Ownership of the Architecture & Design governance to ensure designs and subsequent implementations are consistent and adherent to the ‘needs for change’
  • Ensuring Domain Architects & SMEs are aligned to common set of Architecture Principles, avoiding investment and design deviations
  • Ensuring delivery projects are accurately impact-assessed for change efforts and complexity
  • Integration with the PMO functions to support delivery planning governance and RAID management
  • Maintaining an investment and upgrade roadmap of the overall technology landscape
  • Maintaining technological assurance and success audits for standards (ISO9001 for example)
  • Ensuring Motorola and Customer (UK Home Office, for example) security principles, policies and requirements are adhered to within the technology estate
  • Providing astute direction and guidance on all technology matters within the E2E architecture
  • Promoting a look-ahead culture within team and suggest technological improvements, aided with Business case to articulate value realisation
  • Mentoring and Coaching E2E Architects, Domain Architects and SMEs to promote growth opportunities
  • Promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion within the team and wider functions


Basic Requirements

  • Prior experience in an Architecture leadership role in a similarly-sized organisation as Motorola
  • Prior experience in Line managing a team with diversified skills
  • Demonstrable Architecture and Design credential of a large technological estate, experience in the Telecommunications, OSS and Public Safety domains is highly desirable
  • A self-starter who can work independently as well as collaborate effectively with team members with minimal supervision
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • TOGAF or equivalent architectural accreditation
  • ITIL certification is not mandatory, but preferred
  • Experience with Waterfall and Agile software delivery methodologies
  • Must have the ability to obtain NPPV3 security clearance. (Must be resident of the UK for a minimum of 3 years)
