Department Overview
A Graduate position has become available within the Central Transmission team. This position will be an integral member of the team and will assist with the design of transmission solutions, working closely with experienced engineers.
The Transmission team are responsible for the design and technical support for the transmission networks deployed by Motorola. We currently use microwave, Satellite (VSAT, LEO etc), fixed links and leased optical and fibre transmission systems. Over the next few years we will be converting our SDH based networks to IP and next generation of transmission networks and we are looking for young engineers to assist us along this path. The team is a dynamic group of individuals with varied technological backgrounds and this role is an ideal opportunity for someone to get involved in the state of the art connectivity solutions.
Job Description
This role will be a hybrid role primarily based in our Rugby office with home based work arrangements.
You will be involved in defining the requirements for transmission solutions
Data analytics and insights by utilising the Transmission data sets and creating new data management solutions.
Producing technical documentation for tenders to industry and reviewing responses.
You will gain broad experience of specifying solutions and providing technical support for the solutions to the field maintenance teams once they are deployed.
You will spend time with the field maintenance teams to understand how decisions in design can impact the ease of maintenance once they have been deployed.
You will gain experience in how to cost work and solutions so that bids can be made to our customers.
There will be opportunities to attend training courses to broaden your technical knowledge.
Where appropriate, you will also be given the opportunity to attend management training to further develop your potential.
Your opportunity:
During your time with Airwave you will be guided by an experienced mentor so that you gain experience and knowledge of the complete network.
You will initially assist experienced engineers as they develop solutions and support the roll out process.
Once you have gained sufficient experience you will be given small projects to manage on your own with a mentor to provide guidance and to challenge your design choices.
You will be given opportunities to utilise your analytical thinking to come up with new insights by utilising the existing data sets and bringing numbers to life.
You will gain knowledge of the costs associated with building and running transmission networks.
You will learn how to balance quality against cost to provide optimum solutions that meet requirements.
You will spend time with other departments to understand how the Transmission team fits into the Motorola business as well as how our decisions impact them.
Once you have sufficient experience you could be working alone to restore the Airwave service in an area or control room with Airwave’s customers relying on you to provide the service they need to be able to provide their services to the public.
The development programme can lead to membership of the IET at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer level.
Basic Requirements
The following are considered essential for this role:
A relevant BSc, MSc, MEng, or BEng in a Telecommunications subject, coding, data analytics/science experience will be advantageous.
A valid driving license.
IMPORTANT - Must have the ability to obtain SC / NPPV3 security clearance. To obtain this you must be resident of the UK for a minimum of 3 years.
