Job Descrption

At Penguin Random House Audio, the UK’s leading audiobook publisher, we are dedicated to making the very best audiobooks. Working with exceptional talent, producers and studios, we publish award-winning and bestselling audiobooks such as Lisa Jewell’s None of this is True, Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO, David Mitchell’s Unruly and Dr Julie Smith’s Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?

We have an exciting opportunity to join this fast-paced team as a Producer working in our in-house and external studios. This is a full-time, fixed term contract position to cover a period of parental leave (6 months, July 2024 through January 2025).

The Opportunity

Reporting into our Senior Producer, this role will play a lead role delivering high-quality and innovative audiobooks across Penguin Random House working across our production, studio and post-production teams.

Day to day, you can expect to be

  • Directing and engineering recording sessions for a number of Penguin Studios productions, working across a broad range of genres.

  • Leaning into author care and talent management; ensuring everybody who records in Penguin Studios has a great experience.

  • Meticulously preparing for every recording, reading each text and preparing detailed notes on pronunciation, character and tone.

  • Briefing and monitoring post-production on your own titles, including reading proof reports, listening to final masters and advising on sound effects, music and other design elements.

  • Regularly feeding back on recording learnings, promoting a culture of sharing information across the wider team.

  • Undertaking any research to support productions or compiling pronunciations for books with extensive foreign, specialist or complex language.

What you’ll bring

We’d love to hear from you if you combine a love for literature and proven hands-on experience producing audio within different genres and styles.

You’ll have:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in audio production for audiobooks.

  • An understanding of audio technology, including recording interfaces, recording software, microphones, and compressors.

  • Experience directing actors and readers for the best possible audio performance.

  • New ideas and creativity around how to produce innovative and market-leading audiobooks.

  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders across projects.

  • The ability to juggle various projects at any one time.

If you’d like to help to shape the future of audiobooks, the fastest-growing area of publishing, please apply to us with a CV and cover letter by midnight on Wednesday 1st May.
