Publishing Manager, Backlist/Special Editions, Random House Worlds (Open to Remote) 

The Random House Worlds team seeks a Publishing Manager specializing in Backlist/Special Editions. The newly created role reports to the Deputy Publisher and works in the Publishing office of Random House Worlds. The manager will work to maximize opportunities with the backlist titles (and certain frontlist titles) of the three imprints (Del Rey, Random House Worlds, & Inklore).

 

This position will collaborate with many departments, including publishing, editorial, marketing, sales, art, and production. With a focus on team building and project management, the manager will strategize with the publishing team on day-to-day decisions regarding timing, sales promotions, and the selection of backlist titles for reissue.


The Backlist/Special Editions Manager will cultivate an awareness of our backlist, identify opportunity titles, and develop strategies for bringing them to a new audience. Project-based, the job will include liaising with authors and agents, repackaging covers, working with the sales team on timing and promotions, and interfacing with marketing when needed on individual books.

 

In addition, the position will manage first editions, account exclusives, convention exclusives, and movie tie-in editions, working with internal stakeholders as well as outside partners to project manage these special publications, which take extra care and attention.

 

This is a great opportunity to hone your trade publishing experience and knowledge and apply it to the entire publishing process from the vantage point of the Publishing office of a growing division with several imprints.

The Role:

  • Reissue backlist from Random House Worlds licensed brands, working with publisher, editors, sales, and marketing
  • Reissue classic fiction titles from Del Rey’s extensive backlist and identify titles appropriate for new promotions
  • Identify candidates to bring from mass market to trade paperback format, and other market-driven opportunities
  • Assist with copyright terminations, license renewals, and subsequent reissues, working with publisher, editors, and agents
  • Coordinate all aspects of movie/TV tie-in publications, including studio interface, securing permissions for tie-in art, and release of movie/TV tie-in edition
  • Project manage all aspects of first editions, account exclusive and convention exclusive editions, including working with internal teams to surface and execute opportunities, and working with marketing and sales to promote
  • Work closely with backlist marketers to promote trend-based backlist titles in both fiction and non-fiction

 

The Essentials:

  • A minimum of five years of experience working in sales, editorial, or marketing in trade publishing is preferred.
  • Genuine interest in genre fiction, licensed, and pop culture publishing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work with many departments to pull a project together
  • Detail-oriented
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Desire to learn new systems and the ability to run reports

Salary for this position is $70,000.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
