Finance Director 

 

The Finance Director is responsible for all aspects of managing the finance function at the company’s Gaithersburg, MD location. This employee will work closely with Gaithersburg Site Leadership and the US and Global Finance Teams to oversee and lead financial reporting and provide financial analysis and insights for all aspects of the Gaithersburg business. Reporting to the Vice President, US Finance, the Finance Director is an integral member of the broader US Finance Team. The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor and serve as a strategic partner to the Gaithersburg Site Leadership and the US Finance team.

 

This role is based out of the Company’s Gaithersburg, MD location and expected to be in-person at the facility a majority of the time.

 

The areas of responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Partner and build relationships with all site-level departments, budget owners and site leadership to ensure accurate forecasting, budget management and financial analysis;

  • Coordinate and lead all aspects of the annual budget process and quarterly reforecasting process for the Company’s cell and gene therapy manufacturing facility in Gaithersburg, MD;

  • Coordinate with Cambridge based US Finance Team to integrate site level budgeting processes into broader US financials; 

  • Lead Gaithersburg site financial reporting by preparing monthly, quarterly and annual management reports and presentations and providing insightful budget vs actual and period over period commentary at each of the site, department and program levels;

  • Partner with the Human Resources Lead to support site headcount and FTE planning, including tracking of actual hires to date versus budget;

  • Proactively be involved in capital expenditure decisions, leading capital asset requisition approval process;

  • Manage and oversee accounting for site fixed assets;

  • Assist US finance team with supporting and reporting the recording of employee hours to various projects;

  • Confirm alignment of spend with budget by reviewing contracts and amendments to verify against budget assumptions and reviewing purchase requisitions to determine if included in budget and to ensure that they are properly coded;

  • Support the monthly close process, primarily by overseeing site related accruals;

  • Evaluate current processes and identify opportunities for operational improvements and efficiencies;

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to identify cost savings initiatives, support business decisions and drive performance improvements;

  • Ensure overall compliance with internal controls and support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance; and

  • Support finance team and broader organization through ad hoc reporting projects and analysis as needed.

 

Preferred Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field required.

  • 10 plus years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a life sciences manufacturing environment;

  • Experience with R&D and manufacturing accruals and forecasting;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong communication skills and ability to work across all levels of the organization;

  • Strong team player with a collaborative mindset and ability to build cross-functional relationships;

  • Detail oriented and excellent analytical, financial and valuation modeling skills;

  • Ability to convey and visually present details using Excel and PowerPoint;

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statement reporting;

  • Self-motivated, flexible and able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and evolving environment;

  • Ability to meet deadlines and able to respond to ad hoc requests and work constructively with business partners providing financial guidance and ensuring compliance with corporate policies;

  • Experience with financial planning software and ERP systems – Oracle and SAP;

  • High level of integrity and trustworthy.

 

Preferred Requirements: MBA and/or CPA
