Department overview:
Credit Risk Management, EMEA is comprised of approximately 20 credit analysts who work in one of four areas: Funds/Hedge Funds, Financial Institutions, Sovereigns and Corporates. In addition, the analysts are supported by colleagues based in the offshore and nearshore locations and by the staff of the Credit Risk Management middle office. The department is responsible for analysing counterparties, assigning ratings, and approving flow and structured transactions. We work closely with colleagues in other areas of Risk Management and in other regions as well as front office and other departments such as Legal, Finance, Operations and Collateral Management. Each analyst is responsible for monitoring and managing exposure to a dedicated portfolio of counterparties.
The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an Associate to join the EMEA Hedge Funds & Private Equity Team. Reporting to the team head, the candidate will work independently on on-boarding, rating and risk monitoring of Hedge Funds and Private Equity Funds. They will also manage credit risk exposure arising from credit and equity Prime Brokerage, and from trading of OTC derivatives and securities financing.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Conduct detailed due diligence on Hedge Fund and Private Equity clients.
• Negotiate credit terms in legal documentation.
• Approve internal counterparty ratings and limits under delegated authority.
• Review and approve trade requests.
• Contribute to the firm’s Risk Change agenda and participate in regulatory and audit assessments.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in managing Hedge Fund and/or Private Equity credit risk at a major financial institution, including application of delegated approval authority.
• Product knowledge of all major derivative instruments and Prime Brokerage products/services with a full understanding their respective risk characteristics.
• Understanding of master trading documentation, particularly International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), Global Master Repo Agreements (GMRA), Futures and Options (F&O) and Prime Brokerage Agreements.
• Display a detailed understanding of the credit risk framework, including relevant exposure metrics and stressing testing.
• Analytical mind set and problem-solving ability with a quantitative aptitude.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
