This role is critical to the operational teams supporting the Defence customer communications systems. Failure of the tooling platform would hinder the ability of the Enterprise Managed Services (EMS) teams to monitor, manage and restore services to our SLAs damaging the reputation of the BT brand with our customer.
You will be an experienced 3rd Line Support engineer within a technical team maintaining the BT defence IT tooling platforms, with a particular emphasis on Oracle infrastructure elements, which provide the systems to supports multiple defence contracts. It is vital that the Service and Network management platforms are available to the service and support teams 24/7.
This role will be full time and site based in Chippenham in Wilshire, with no home working. Suitable candidates must be able to gain a DV Clearance, which requires you to have been a UK national for at least the last 10 years.
• Ensuring the virtual computer systems deployed for the tooling platform are monitored and repaired
• Ensuring the underlying computer systems, backups, databases, networks and firewalls, hosting the support applications are always available
• Providing support to the design community to ensure timely delivery of new solutions, changes and upgrades
• Proactively staying current with the latest technology pertaining to their respective specialist area
• Engaging with customer technology experts, presenting designs and technical plans, roadmaps and represent BT at external technical forums with the customer
• The successful candidate must be willing to undergo Government Security Clearance to DV level, which requires residence in the UK for a minimum of 10 years
• Excellent knowledge or certification in VMWare virtual computing
• Expert knowledge or certification in Windows Operating system support – including configuration by Group Policy
• Extensive knowledge of the management, configuration and back up of Oracle operating systems
• Expert Knowledge of the management, installation, configuration, and support of Oracle databases
