Why this job matters

The purpose of the Design Engineering Professional role is to deliver network designs for Global Reach network platforms and/or customer solutions. Specifically, this role is accountable for:

Driving efficiency and scalability through the re-use of IP/VPN network designs and ongoing in-life operation of designs across the overall Global Reach network platforms and/or customer solution
Greater responsibility and ownership of elements of network design
Expected to contribute to large parts of Network Design HLD and LLD 
Ownership of elements of the design, becoming specialist and supporting these aspects of the platform along with customer deployments in live.
 

Job responsibilities

As a Design Engineering Professional, you will be responsible for designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure network solutions to meet the needs of our customers.

  • Design and configure network infrastructure components, including routers & switches (both physical & virtual) using Cisco IOS/JUNOS/ OpenConfig & YANG models. 
  • Document network design decisions, configurations, and implementation procedures for knowledge sharing and future reference through Documentation as Code & GIT. 
  • Develop detailed network architecture and design documents, including diagrams, specifications, and implementation plans.
  • Perform network design validation and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and security of the proposed solutions using an automated testing approach (BDD)
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Network Operations, Security, and Systems Engineering, to implement network designs and ensure seamless integration with existing systems. 
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical network design solutions

Skills required

  • Proficient knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, Dynamic Routing, VLANs) 
  • Software automation skills (Python/BASH) specifically applied to solve network problems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools such as Gitlab is desirable
  • Working knowledge of automation test frameworks such as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and/or Robot Framework is desirable
  • Member of a professional body e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology
