Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Rail Vehicle Project Consultant to join our North American Infrastructure group in our Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in our Newark, NJ office.
In this role, the ideal candidate is an engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts and have a minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience. Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus. An FE registration is desirable but not required. This role will support projects in the New Jersey and New York City metropolitan areas which will include witnessing of commissioning testing at designated commissioning sites.
As the successful candidate, you will:
Witness commissioning testing of rail vehicles.
Participate in inspections of rail vehicle and infrastructure maintenance activities.
Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, and functional testing.
Assist with the conduct of forensic investigations of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff.
Assist in the review of design submittals, and preparation of detailed descriptions of the review findings.
Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients.
Inspect and review prototype and first article equipment and prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.
Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff.
Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern.
Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment.
Provide engineering support as required.
You bring to the role:
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
A minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering, preferably in rail.
Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical systems
Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills
Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, be able to multi-task on a variety of work assignments, and meet deadlines.
Valid driver license (travel to various carhouses and infrastructure sites required)
The following skills/experience are a plus:
Experience with Autodesk and AutoCAD software
Basic programming skills
Experience of Finite Element (ANSYS or Equivalent) Software
