Overall Purpose Of The Job
This is an on-call casual position. The Physician will be required to respond to Disasters in support of State and Federal governments responses. This position may require deployments of 14 days to 120 days in length to areas effected by large disasters. Locations are anywhere in the United States and its territories. Rates will vary per disaster and per location.The Registered Nurse will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect clinical care to patients. She/ he will competently function as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and community centered care. She/he serves as an advocate for the patient and their family and intercedes on their behalf by acting as a liaison for patients and their families with respect to their rights and beliefs. The Registered Nurse will utilize their expertise of evidenced based medical practice to manage unexpected and emergent situations, to mitigate and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses in a prompt and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within licensed scope of work.
Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, prescribed medications.
Establish observable and documentable patient goals using care plans within NANDA.
Report all changes in patient’s conditions to the medical provider.
Proactively and independently administer basic and urgent/emergent care, including but not limited to inserting catheters with blood specimen collection, urine collection and EKG’s, visual acuity, basic wound care, changing bandages or administering intravenous medications.
Assist patients with basic care and activities of daily living, as needed.
Provides support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions.
Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies.
Restocking clinical and provider areas once supplies are received.
On-call rotation schedule participation as needed
Is accountable for maintaining and improving own physician knowledge and skill competence.
Provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the clinic.
Supports the International SOS philosophy, objectives and goals and Organization mission and vision.
Respects and supports patient rights.
Fosters constructive relationships as a team member within assigned department and with the members of other departments.
Maintains professional conduct.
Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Job profile
Required Skills and Knowledge
Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience in the past three years caring for patients.
Emergency or Urgent Care experience (preferred).
Experience working with US military healthcare regulations and standards of care (preferred).
Experience working in austere environments (preferred).
Accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills
Education Required:
Current and unrestricted license from any US State, District of Columbia or US Territory to provide healthcare within scope of practice.
Diploma, associate, or bachelor's degree in nursing is required from an Accredited nursing program.
Current American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. (Preferred)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred. (Preferred)
Physical Demands:
Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
Will involve assisting in the lifting and moving of patients for litters, wheelchairs, and beds.
Performing CPR
May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 35 lbs.
Exposure to tropical heat and weather conditions during duration of deployment.
Other Special Qualifications:
US Citizen
Live near a major airport
Be able to respond to site within 72 hours
Clear a Child Neglect and Abuse Check and other background requirements.
