Chocolate Lab Technician at Barry Callebaut

Job Descrption

About the role

Covering a range of functions in the Pilot & Application labs, the role will include manufacturing small scale pilot samples in chocolate & chocolate related products, as well as working with a range of equipment to assist the development of new products for customers. The candidate should be able to work together in a small team as well as individually without much supervision. The role will include interaction with other stakeholders within the business as well as external customers.

 

Duration: 6-12 Month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) with Potential for Permanent Position.

 

Key responsibilities

● Pack and distribute samples using the samples database system. This also includes keeping the samples area stocked up
● Support in the day to day activities in the Pilot lab, which includes producing & testing customer trials to a specification - using equipment
such as Mixers, Refiners & conches – as well as the collection of raw materials from the factory
● Support in the day to day activities in the Application lab which includes working alongside R&D/Account managers/Customers to provide
customer products & concept samples - using equipment such as Panners, One-shot, Enrobers, Spinners, Baking Ovens as well as hand
tempering of various products
● Support on customer visits to the Chocolate lab – which includes talking through how the products have been created & how the equipment
works
● Support the investigation of quality complaints
● Create samples for internal/customer taste panels

 

About you
● Excellent communications skills, verbal and written
● Must be computer literate in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint or the Google equivalent

● Previous background in chocolate making or bakery experience, and knowledge of a food environment is preferred
● Knowledge of development labs and equipment (e.g. conches/one shot/panning) is preferred but not essential
● Excellent attention to detail
● Highly organised
● Ability to work effectively individually or within a small team with little supervision
● Ability use own initiative, effectively problem-solve, and have a good sense of innovation
