Role Purpose

Be part of the QinetiQ journey. Join us as an Ordnance Munitions and Explosives Technician at our Shoeburyness site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and many of the industry’s most brilliant minds. Working with many types of ammunition and explosives, the role is varied and includes providing support to the delivery of trials, selection and transportation of ammunition to ranges, inventory management, housekeeping of explosives buildings and general ammunition management duties.

 

Accountabilities of the Ammunition Technician

 

  • Preparation of Ammunition for trials and proof activities including delivery to the Ranges
  • Receipt and dispatch of ammunition including accurate completion of all relevant documentation
  • Stock checking/inventory management
  • Inspection of licenced Explosives buildings
  • Control of entry into explosives areas
  • Support the site on any task for which you are competent

 

 

Essential experience of the Ammunition Technician

 

  • An awareness of Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives. Be able to describe and example each previously listed
  • Be able to describe Hazard Type, Compatibility groups and why they are important
  • Good level of general education particularly numeracy and literacy
  • Understanding of Health and Safety at Work requirements
  • Good understanding of Explosives Safety Management.
  • The role requires outdoors work in extremes of weather and manual handling
  • There may be a requirement for UK travel, including short-term deployments to other UK sites in support of activities elsewhere.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team in a busy operational environment and take the lead when required

 

Essential Qualifications of the Ammunition Technician

 

  • GCSE grade A-C, NVQ or similar
  • Full UK Car Driving licence.

 

Desirable Qualifications of the Ammunition Technician

 

  • Forklift Truck Certificate
  • ADR class 1 certification
  • LGV C, C+E
  • NVQ Engineering or similar vocational qualification.
