As a Lead Front-End Developer, you will join a dedicated team within our UK Customer business with likeminded colleagues passionate about providing exceptional experiences and helping ensure our customers get the best possible outcomes.
The role’s primary focus is on development and maintenance of Royal London’s enterprise-wide Design System and supporting several multi-disciplinary product squads with adoption of the system.
About the role
Oversee the development and delivery aspects of Royal London’s Design System, ensuring conformance with set standards including accessibility and select front end frameworks.
Take responsibility for ensuring all code is thoroughly tested to meet RLG standards, guidelines, and quality gates for given technology.
Collaborate with Design Team on development feasibility, work through constraints, and execute the design vision into an engineered reality.
Manage dependencies in support of delivery for relevant product teams that are considering integration or actively using the Design System, providing technical advice and guidance to other developers, both proactively and reactively.
Plan and facilitate workshops for other agile squads (product teams) who plan to, or who are adopting the Design System.
Carry out impact assessment of complex changes to existing applications.
Support technical architects in resolving the technology constraints while Design System is used across various products/areas.
Ownership of research activities on technologies and third-party components that impact the Design System.
About you
Deep technical knowledge of one or more programming languages.
Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
Excellent understanding of the full software development lifecycle.
Awareness of agile development practices.
Familiar with automated testing techniques and frameworks.
Expert understanding of UI and JS frameworks including Bootstrap, Material Design, Angular, Typescript.
Expert knowledge on HTML5, CSS, JS.
In depth knowledge of accessibility guidelines (E.g., WCAG) and ARIA framework.
In depth knowledge of using accessibility tools.
In depth understanding of cross-browser and cross-device compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
