Who are always interested in learning new, innovative and exciting ways for us to aid our business colleagues, and ultimately our customers experience.

Collectively, we provide a critical national infrastructure to millions of customers in our region, so the only question is why wouldn't you want to be part of that?

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Severn Trent are on a journey to become a truly data centric organisation, maximising the value from data, insight and analytics and moving into the exciting opportunities presented by AI.

With this in mind, we have created a new opportunity as a Principal IT Engineer for data, building and leading a new Data Engineering team within the IT Operations function. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the strategy and organisation for the future.

Reporting to the head of IT Operations, this high-profile role provides technical leadership and expertise to design, deliver, maintain & manage existing and emerging data solutions. The team will also lend their skills to large and small data related projects and programmes as part of our rolling IT Delivery agenda.

As a National Critical infrastructure business, we have IT infrastructure services including Cloud platforms for 300+ sites right across the midlands and hold and maintain huge volumes of data including many categories of sensitive data. It’s imperative therefore that we ensure our data is protected and accessed only for the right purposes and by the right people. Attention to detail is a key factor for this role, as all work must be carried out with a conscience to regulatory compliance, business value and priority, and with excellent project, and cost management for all activities.

On top of the day to day, this person and their team will need to get involved in activities such as invention and innovation, research, development, design, testing, process improvements, and management of quality, cost, timing, and delivery.

This is a brilliant opportunity for you to join a FTSE 100 business and make a real difference in your expertise, this is a role which you can really shape and add a massive amount of difference to not only the ways we work but also the communities we serve.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The right skills and experience are important. But if you have the right character, positivity, and a caring attitude we want to talk to you, too.

As this is a new role into the business, we’ll be looking for you to have strong previous experience in the data space, ideally in a IT Lead/Engineering leadership position. Technical leadership on major delivery programs is also essential, along with previous knowledge of data strategy and best practice, service and support, and application and delivery methodologies. You will need to be a true experienced thought-leader for data strategy and solutions.

We’ll also look for you to have an ability in identifying measures or indicators of performance and then be able to set the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system. General leadership and line management skills are also a key part of the role due to the direct management of the data engineering team.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We want people who show up and get involved. Those who are ready to be part of something bigger and who want to make a difference because they care. Is that you?
