Our WQ and E (Water Quality & Environment) team have an opportunity for you to join as our new Principal Scientist.

 

In this role responsible for the capital expenditure program and the development of new methodologies across the chemistry department and where appropriate the rest of Analytical Services.

 

You will also be expected to provide technical advice, support water quality teams, liaising with regulators and water companies to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices. Additionally, you may have to deputise for Quality Assurance Manager in certain situations.

 

 

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

 

  • Reviews future legislative changes in relation to chemical analysis and ensures that the laboratory has the capability to test these requirements.
  • Support the performance improvement and troubleshooting of existing methodologies to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Application of appropriate methodologies in Chemistry and Monitoring related to, but not limited by review of, method validations, method verifications, AQC regimes and PT schemes.
  • Ensure that equipment is validated and fit for purpose and appropriate quality controls are in place.
  • Management of allocated Capex budget and resources to ensure that the service utilizes instrumentation that is fit for purpose, but with a view to enhancing efficiency and quality of the processes.
  • Support of the Technical Planning Lead in relation to Non-Conforming Work and sign off for all P1 and P2 issues.
  • Remain up to date with respect to current regulatory requirements and best practice.
  • Act as the company representative for chemistry or sampling issues on designated water industry groups and technical committees such as SCA, BSI, ISO.

 

 

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

The successful candidate will ideally have significant experience in regulatory drinking water sampling or analytical sectors, along with charted status as required by DWI Reg16.

 

A degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline is necessary, though extended experience can substitute formal qualifications, documented in their CPD.

 

You will also have a proven track record in developing and implementing new scientific technologies, working within an ISO17025 accreditation system, and possess strong analytical skills.

 

As travel may be required, you’ll also need to hold a full UK driving licence.
