What you’ll be responsible for
As a Water Assets Controller you will be a focal point for these assets, both in and out of hours, and will be responsible for monitoring critical asset parameters, adjusting flows and system pressures where appropriate and escalating any issues promptly to the relevant teams. You will work alongside other team members who handle telemetry and security alarms and will support them with triaging issues, determining when site attendance is required and ensuring issues are resolved and risks mitigated. You will work closely with Water Production, Distribution & Operational Response teams. You will also:
- Monitor all key DCWW Water assets across all of Wales & the parts of England we serve (WTWs, SRVs and Trunk Mains systems) through use of multiple corporate systems and tools.
- Enable the efficient operation of our water networks through executing actions & delivering planned operations, taking water resource/abstraction/operational restrictions, WTW available capacity and cost into consideration. You’ll be authorised to carry out certain operational actions such as adjusting pressures, flows and WTW output in order to maximise efficiency and ensuring maximised storage retention across the network.
- Undertake operational decision making with regards to capacity management in the event of a works outage. You will carry out initial triage, determine what action is required and put actions into motion. Depending on the circumstance you will need to undertake remotely controlled operations (in line with pre-agreed plans / operating instructions), liaise with Production teams, or escalate to Shift Managers.
- Support the Operational Response team in ensuring that SRV levels and Water Production outputs are considered during events / incidents. You will undertake/coordinate operations to maximise storage, protect water quality and customer supplies.
- Support planned works being undertaken on the Treatment Works and Network through involvement in planning calls and delivery of work. You will be required to monitor and build storage ahead of planned works and support remotely with the delivery via managing the output of assets.
- Proactively intervene to manage SRV levels through remote control of Water Pumping Stations and control valves where required and in line with approved plans. You’ll ensure that appropriate investigation and escalation occurs where any anomalies are detected, or triggers are breached.
- Support the Alarm Response team with monitoring, interpreting, and processing all alarms, ensuring a highly responsive service and appropriate level of response is provided at all times through effective, timely decision making.
- Work closely with Operational teams in Production and Distribution to build a robust understanding of our water networks and you’ll support the development & delivery of proactive plans to reduce cost, including running Triad Avoidance and Peak Energy Tariff Avoidance schedules.
- Ensure that all actions and decisions made are recorded appropriately in corporate systems and incident logs.
- Track and monitor all works outages and SRV issues – support the route cause analysis and ensure repeat issues are logged and fed back to the operational teams for resolution.
- Track tactical demand and capacity to support Unplanned Outage and PWPC metrics.
- Proactively support the delivery of alarm optimisation and other operational strategies.
