What you’ll be responsible for
As a Water Operational Response Analyst you will:
- Act as the analytical focal point for Water within the Operational Response & Control Hubs providing technical direction and support to the ORC teams and on-site response/standby teams. You will provide technical advice to the Shift Manager, Bronze, Silver and Gold Managers in relation to network operations to enable effective decision making.
- Carry out interrogation of reactive water network issues, supporting the team in developing and executing appropriate response plans to ensure that water supplies to customers are not disrupted/impact is minimised and quality is not compromised. This will involve use of multiple corporate systems, including hydraulic modelling.
- Work at pace to determine areas, customers and assets impacted by reactive failures/events, ensuring that prompt decisions can be made around how best to respond and customers affected receive communication as quickly as possible.
- Produce detailed Risk Assessment/Method Statements which document our response plans for water network operations and ensure that Safety, Quality and Public Health are always at the forefront of what we do. As an Analyst you will be authorised to approve Risk Assessments, up to an agreed threshold, produced by other members of the team.
- Coordinate, support and direct front-line personnel in Response and Distribution teams during planned work and events and ensure that activities are executed in line with plans.
- Support Water Assets Controller(s) within the Control Hub with technical analysis around Water Asset issues (i.e Water Treatment Works, Service Reservoirs & Trunk Main systems) to enable decision making around flow requirements/adjustments and storage retention times. You will be trained and authorised to carry out hydraulic system adjustments/asset operation where automation allows and suitable risk assessment has taken place.
- Work closely with Water Distribution and Water Production teams to ensure that planned work on networks & assets are fully understood and that the ORC teams can effectively support the delivery of plans.
- Support the proactive management of CML / Pressure alarms, ensuring that all alarms are appropriately set and add value adding, in line with our Alarm Strategy. This involves carrying out technical analysis of alarms, understanding of root cause and instigating alarm threshold changes where appropriate and in line with procedures.
- Provide information for regulatory reporting of events/incidents (i.e DWI notifiable incidents or Water Pollution Events) both for initial notification and further detailed reports.
- Support the Post Incident Review Process (PIR) process and carry out analysis post-event’s to ensure that MOS reporting is timely & accurate (CML & Customer Acceptability etc.). Lead on ensuring that any lessons learned / opportunities for improvement following reviews are documented, tracked and seen through to delivery by the appropriate teams.
- Work with local distribution network analysts post-events or following identification of issues to carry out technical analysis and root cause. Support with the tracking and delivery of any actions required.
- Develop management information reports, which will allow operational management teams to understand the level of asset risk held within the business in order to support investment decisions and strategic planning.

About you
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience operating at a technical, supervisory or analytical level in Operations in the Water Industry, Utilities or Engineering sectors.
- Strong Technicial, Analytical and decision making skills are essential.
- Ability to effectively assess, evaluate and prioritise potential outcomes to inform decision making.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, be challenging and rigorous, to ensure the correct level of accuracy is maintained
- Ability to conduct analysis from large, complex data sources, arrive at a credible conclusion and advise on an appropriate course of action
- Good organisational skills with the ability to work alone, under pressure, and prioritise workloads
- Able to deal with external stakeholders in a professional manner promoting a positive image of DCWW at all times
- A team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships across management teams and wider organisation in order to develop a collaborative working environment.
- Effective communication skills and ability to undertake and communicate appropriate monitoring or remedial actions as per pre agreed processes.
- A high standard of IT & systems literacy
- Scientific, engineering or analytical background
Good to know
- You will be based in a modern control room at our Linea office in St. Mellons. You will participate in an annualised hours shift team, working a 24/7/365 shift rota. The shift rota gives great work/life balance, and you will be rewarded with ample rest days and an annualised 25% shift allowance in addition to your salary.
- You will be working 12-hour shifts, typically 4 on 4 off, with 2 early shifts (6am - 6pm) followed by 2 late shifts (6pm - 6am).
- Requirement to participate in a standby rota.
