Welsh Water spends around £60m each year on energy across its 4,200 powered sites. The Energy Team supports the business to ensure that energy use is minimized, where possible is self-generated on site and if bought in is done so at the lowest possible cost. It operates and maintains over 80 renewable energy generation assets and manages the Company’s significant investment into further energy efficiency and generation, innovating wherever possible and ensuring we play our part in the rapidly changing the energy landscape.
Working in the North of Wales, you will manage the water releases from our large Hydro Dams whilst maximizing the generation of the Hydro Turbines associated with each. You will also:
1. Liaise and plan work with NRW and Dam Safety to ensure uninterrupted releases from the Dams when plant shut downs are required for maintenance and other associated work required on site
2. Contributing to the achievement of the Key Performance Indicators used to monitor and improve the effectiveness of the Energy Operations (Generation) team, including Company Energy self-sufficiency and carbon reduction figures.
3. Comply with the Area Health & Safety plan through the application of appropriate H&S strategies.
4. Operate the Dams and associated Hydro Turbines to company IMS and Health & Safety requirements including basic maintenance, lubrication, and basic instrument calibration.
5. Participate in training & development in accordance with all Human Resource policies and procedures; including regular contact with manager, one to one meetings, performance reviews, identification and fulfilment of safety training needs and development needs etc. of self and others.
6. To induct and supervise contractors carrying out revenue and reactive capital maintenance breakdowns and projects ensuring full compliance to Health & Safety and IMS requirements and ensuring quality control.
7. To liaise with Maintenance Teams and wider support functions both internal and external to Welsh Water.
8. To participate in arrangements and cover for annual leave and sickness for area of operation.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
You will hold a current driving license as you will be required to travel to multiple sites. You will also be required to take part in our 24hr standby rota (1 week in 4) which includes participation in a Planned Work Time agreement with committed hours to cover some weekend morning shifts at the Llyn Celyn Dam (coinciding with the standby rota).
