What you’ll be responsible for

 

As Energy Analyst you will be responsible for:

 

  • Ensuring delivery of a proportion of the energy investment programme (£45m over five years).  This could include; energy efficiency in waste and clean water, wind turbines, solar PV, hydro-turbines and CHP engines.  
  • Acting as the client to the capital delivery teams for your projects and liaising with other stakeholders e.g. operations teams, asset managers, suppliers and regulators.
  • Specifying projects, creating and assessing their business case and steering them through the capital delivery gateway process.  
  • Working with capital delivery teams to ensure that projects are on track to deliver to time, budget and the expected rate of return.
  • Analysing data to measure the benefits as part of a post project review.
  • Working with the capital delivery alliance, reviewing schemes funded through the Quality and maintenance programmes to identify energy saving or generation opportunities and support their development. 
  • Undertaking innovative pilot or trial schemes and report on their progress and outcome. 
  • Support ‘Net-Zero’ transition of the business with carbon reduction initiatives
  • Monitoring performance against appropriate benchmarks, performing analysis to identify opportunities and, where possible deliver changes, to improve performance.
  • Acting as a technical authority (in your particular areas of specialism) to all Welsh Water and partner colleagues on energy related areas relating to clean and waste water energy consumption and generation.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

About you

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a science or engineering discipline or with substantial experience in an energy role
  • Significant technical experience of energy optimisation in a water utility or another medium to large industrial organisation or utility    
  • Experience of working in an analytical or asset management role    
  • The ability to communicate with confidence and accuracy on the specialist area(s) and able to do so whilst conveying the key information to non-specialists    
  • An understanding of energy issues and data in water and wastewater    
  • Evidence of problem solving, innovative or lateral thinking to be able to develop solutions arising from detailed data analysis    
     

Good to know

 

  • The successful candidate must be able to travel to site locations as required
  • Flexible / hybrid working with official base of work at a DCWW site.
  • The role will require significant travel, including several days away from home visiting sites and the potential of working away from home.
  • Shift pattern is agreed with the line manager between 7am and 7pm on working days.
  • No standby requirement or overtime
