Job Summary:
Monolithic Power Systems is seeking an eager, self-motivated, hands-on, reliable Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering student to join us this summer as a paid intern. This intern will be engaged with our mechanical, electrical and mechatronics engineering teams with focus primarily on the existing MPS mCar project (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLf_sBK-JNM). We have multiple near-term goals to enhance the vehicle’s safety, reliability, and functionality on subsystems such as the driver interface, steering motors and dynamic shock actuation motors that should provide no shortage of challenging and rewarding tasks.
Responsibilities:
Implement software and electrical hardware improvements and upgrades on the MPS mCar:
Vetting and improving existing system wiring diagrams
Understanding and improving documentation of the mCar system source-code
Implement improvements in vehicle steering and speed control algorithms
Work with mechanical team to implement improvements to steering and shock motor subsystem control reliability and performance
Work with mechanical team to implement improvements in driver interface/cockpit controls
Research and implement/test next-tier shock and steering control functionality
Provide appropriate documentation for all activities in accordance with established MPS practices
Provide regular updates to project leadership team
Work in-person 5 days per week at our South San Jose office
Qualifications:
Written and verbal proficiency in English with excellent communication skills
Currently pursuing BS or MS in Electrical/Robotics/Mechatronics Engineering, or related field (rising junior or later)
Proficiency in C programming
Previous experience with ARM-cortex based microcontrollers
Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS485 MODBUS, UART
Understanding of basics of motor control such as torque, speed, and position control
Hands-on prototyping skills such as basic soldering and usage of common hand tools
Ability to read electrical schematics
Demonstrated abilities to be well-organized and detail-oriented
Must be able to live in San Jose for the duration of the internship
Bonus Qualifications:
Formula SAE or vehicle dynamics experience
Robotics experience
Good mechanical acumen and mechanical hands-on capability
Prior internship experience on similar projects

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education and other job-related reasons. The base salary range for this position in California is $38/hr- $43/hr.
