Job Descrption

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Literacy in the application of permitting and right of way restrictions and processes. These documents will be required upon completion of a designed project.
  2. Safety and Service practices, Subdivision and Building design.
  3. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in aerial, buried and underground design and construction methods including but not limited to, conduit, manholes and hand holes etc.
  4. Ability to communicate requirements to drafting and encoding personnel for the generation of a customer Engineering Work Order.
  5. Ability to interact with the public and other employees in a positive manner and promote a cooperative working environment.
  6. Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail and organization; ability to prioritize and complete tasks prior to deadlines.
  7. Strong dedication to meeting deadlines with very thorough work as evidenced through strong analytical, quantitative, and Excel skills.
  8. Ability to analyze, synthesize and present information in a manner that facilitates decision making.
  9. Excellent oral and written communications skills (including public speaking) in English.
  10. Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and prepare analytical reports.
  11. Ability to demonstrate excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills.
  12. Ability to demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and effective time management.
  13. Ability to work cooperatively and as a member of a team and display interpersonal awareness.
  14. Ability to form and maintain effective partnerships across organizational boundaries.
  15. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  16. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including, evenings and weekends.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interpret and follow engineering standards for assigned projects.
  2. Use CAD and other software to develop engineering designs.
  3. Perform route analysis and develop aerial and underground fiber route maps.
  4. Handle fiber verification and mapping activities.
  5. Maintain records of fiber splicing and topography.
  6. Develop mitigation and restoration procedures for emergencies conditions such as fiber damages, power failures and other disasters.
  7. Perform construction and maintenance of OSP infrastructure according to industry standards.
  8. Maintain safety and security of OSP facility.
  9. Determine scope, budget and schedules for OSP projects.
  10. Monitor and control expenses within allotted budget.
  11. Communicate project status to Managers on weekly basis.
  12. Complete the assigned projects within the defined scope and timelines.
  13. Perform routine inspection of OSP networks.
  14. Get state and local permits as required to execute OSP projects.
  15. Assist in the installation and splicing of fiber optic cables and new underground network facilities, when required.
  16. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  17. Other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                                                                              To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent; College level courses in AutoCAD drafting/CATV design desired
  • At least 3 years hands-on/field experience designing and construction of Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable (UG, Aerial, Buried, BICS) and manhole and conduit design.
  • Strong background in fiber plant support services
  • Knowledge of permitting process
  • Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication and including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
