Recreation and Leisure Services Manager at Thurrock Council

Job Descrption

Salary: £59,925 - £69,165 per annum

Grade H

Permanent Contract

37 Hours per Week 

Main responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of the Recreation and Leisure Teams
  • Accountable for the development of policies, plans and working practices in relation to Recreation, Leisure and Sports Services 
  • Manage Recreation and Leisure Services within budgets
  • Manage strategic liaison with Community Groups and Forums to ensure that Recreation and Leisure services and planned and delivered to maximise community engagement. 
  • Work with partner Organisations, Community Groups and other Council Departments to ensure that residents are able to take full advantage of the Leisure and Recreation spaces and activities provided within the Borough. 
  • To develop, implement and sustain the Authority’s sporting and leisure: facilities, activities, policies and strategies 
  • Develop Authority’s sport and leisure policy and strategy  
  • Provide a strategic overview regarding regeneration opportunities within education, sport and leisure
  • Lead and manage the Sports Development Unit

Key experience and skills required

  • Ability to develop and implement strategies
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate political or corporate vision into meaningful strategic and operational objectives
  • Ability to work effectively with partnerships and external funding agencies 
  • External Funding processes 
  • Well-developed project management and research skills
  • Success in building and leading teams and acting in partnership with others
