Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. We look for those who possess sound judgment, curiosity, and are able to adapt to a changing regulatory landscape.
YOUR IMPACT
Execute high priority and complex projects for the firm by using best-in-class project management skills and strong working knowledge of financial services and operational processes. The role creates an opportunity to lead and deliver key cross functional projects for the firm, engaging at all stages of the project life-cycle.
The role is located in London as part of the Cross-Divisional Project team (XDIV) within the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer or OCAO. You will be part of a dedicated team responsible for executing strategic projects to advance the firm’s priorities and deliver impactful revenue, risk and control, regulatory and efficiency opportunities. Using effective program delivery methods, functional and technical expertise, and stakeholder management skills, XDIV provides senior management with execution capabilities to deliver their most complex projects. XDIV within the Office of the CAO is uniquely positioned to enable diverse segments, functions, requirements and stakeholders to deliver on their strategies.
This role will initially focus on a key regulatory program where you will lead workstreams and contribute to the delivery of a multi-year strategic initiative. Post this program your role would be to lead other significant firmwide projects on behalf of the CAO. By performing the role, the candidate will acquire detailed knowledge of multiple areas within the firm.
Responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with leadership / divisions to identify, define and document project objectives and requirements
- Working with and across businesses and CFO&E (Controllers, Finance, Operations & Engineering) teams to develop and execute project plans to achieve objectives; identifying key milestones and critical path
- Contributing to project and operating effectiveness by bringing a deep understanding of processes and systems used in Banking
- Structuring ambiguous problems and taking action to solve them without complete information
- Preparing materials for working groups and committees, project dashboards, operating model diagrams, requirement specifications, test plans, etc.
- Conducing detailed problem tracking, resolution and completion of all actions and issues by their deadlines
- Communicating updates, statuses and timelines to stakeholders, and escalating items at risk
- Delivering key results to senior management and addressing their queries
- Supporting teams with best practices, program-wide tools, dashboards and other enablers
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines – deep project management skills are a must
- Drive, motivation and resilience – ability to handle multiple tasks, taking initiative to improve his / her own performance, working intensely towards goals and persisting in the face of obstacles or setbacks
- Ability to build long-term relationships and consensus across divisions
- Collaborative and team-oriented, encourages other team members and acknowledges others' contributions
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills with confidence and ability to create, structure and present messages to senior audiences
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and MS Excel skills
- Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to coordinate activities with multiple interdependencies across a number of GS internal teams. You will be key in connecting various functions or teams and sharing information
- Creativity and innovation, with an ability to critically examine current processes to propose and develop improvements
- Ideally a strong understanding of Investment Banking businesses, financial concepts, products and services
