MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

3610 Completion of an associate degree program in nursing

  • Internal new graduates may have a minimum of an associate degree program in nursing.


3611 Completion of a baccalaureate program in nursing

  • External new graduates must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing.


3612 Master’s degree in nursing


Experience:

External applicants with associate degree in nursing must have 1 year (2080 hours) experience as a registered nurse.


For RNs working in a per diem/casual on-call status: Must have at least 1 year (2080 hours) of experience in an acute care setting OR internal RNs must successfully complete their probationary period AND must have at least 1 year (2080 hours) of experience in an acute care setting.

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota.


Demonstrates at the time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers.


Registered nurses re-entering the nursing field, who have not completed 520 hours of nursing practice in the past four (4) years must successfully complete a recognized refresher course in order to qualify for employment. Written information of certification validating successful completion of a refresher course must be provided before employment.

To assess, plan, perform, document, and evaluate professional independent nursing practice at Regions Hospital; to provide work direction for and oversight of the nursing care provided by unlicensed personnel; to perform and document functions such as carrying out the provider’s medical orders; to assist providers with diagnostic and treatment procedures; to provide a safe and therapeutic environment; to coordinate, communicate, interpret, and explain patient care services to the patient, his/her family, health professionals and important others; to perform related duties as assigned.

  • May supervise the work of a unit during a scheduled shift. This includes the provision of work assignments and information. The unit may include up to 25 employees. Provides work direction and supervises the delegated nursing care provided by unlicensed staff, HUCs, and students. May provide coaching and mentoring to staff being supervised.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stands and walks throughout the entire shift while performing job duties. Bends, reaches, twists and stoops frequently while performing job duties. Performs seated or standing work at a computer screen up to 50% of shift. Uses hands and fingers daily while using equipment and performing treatments. Pushing and/or pulling may be required when transporting patients and equipment, performing CPR, or when intervening with patients. Lifts up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. Lifts 100 pounds or more, with assistance, on a daily basis while transferring or positioning patients.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
