Position Summary:
Manages and coordinates the overall functions within Patient Financial Services while teaming with Operations and other areas of Patient Financial Services to provide an exceptional patient experience with the financial aspects of receiving care at PNHS while achieving maximization of organization’s cash flow through review and reconciliation of accounts receivable balances; improvement of customer satisfaction through effective and compliant billing practices; and maintenance and development of systems to support these efforts. Receives and sets operational goals and strategies for the department, and assures they are accomplished through planning, implementing, and directing of system, programs, and staff productivity.
Required Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required, preferably in business, accounting, health or public administration, management, or a related field.
- A minimum of two years management and development responsibilities and three years of healthcare experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong leadership, organization, team building, and management skill required.
- Working knowledge in the areas of patient registration, billing, accounts receivable (AR), and cash management requirements, familiarity with medical terminology and coding (both CPT-4 and ICD-9-CM), health insurance practices, industry regulatory requirements, business office operation, AR and financial reporting technology, and industry standards for healthcare revenue resolution management practices.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, ambiguity, continuous change, and stressful situations.
- Knowledge of government and third-party regulations, HIPAA, billing requirements, insurance processing, as well as familiarity with medical terminology and coding (both CPT-4 and ICD-9-CM).
- This position requires familiarity and compliance with matters of law, regulations, and internal policies affecting the employment relationship, (including but not limited to FMLA, ADA and discrimination and harassment laws).
- Proficiency in the operations of Microsoft Office (including e-mail and calendar), spreadsheets, word processing applications, telephones, fax machines and copiers. Frequent use of spreadsheets, query software and patient accounting applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
- At least two years of Patient Financial Services leadership experience.
- Masters in Hospital or Business Administration or related advanced degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven leadership skills in organizing, planning, providing support and managing an operation and its staff.
- Leadership skills in motivating cross-departmental teams’ performance towards excellence and develop team concepts and consensus-building management styles.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication.
- Actively participates in and leads effective teams through developing trust, encouraging productive conflict, connecting to goals, holding each other accountable and focusing on achieving results.
- Advanced analytical ability to assess situations and choose patient friendly, efficient cost-effective solutions.
- Ability to conceptualize workflow, develop plans and implement appropriate actions.
- Ability to teach others.
- Experience with Lean and Kaizen Tools.
- Negotiating Skills.
