Background
We are looking for a creative and collaborative colleague with research and education interests in mental health. We want to be recognised for how we do things as well as what we achieve and we want all of our academic colleagues to be a part of this ambition.
We believe the best education and research is delivered when these activities are pursued together and we support an academic culture in which education and research have parity of esteem. We promote integrated translation and discovery science via the development of interdisciplinary teams with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
While we will consider applicants with relevant academic experience in any area of mental health, we will look favourably on candidates with expertise related to the following priority areas:
Mood disorders, broadly defined, and/or expertise in experimental medicine studies, trials, data science and biological treatment of these conditions.
Were you to join us you would be a member of our Institute for Mental Health (IMH) where we focus on improving outcomes and care for people with mental health problems. We determine causes of poor mental health, prevent mental health problems from developing, and develop new treatments and services for established illness. We are a vibrant community of over 40 academic staff, and 80+ researchers and PhD students. We have dedicated space funded by the Wolfson Foundation and we pursue interdisciplinary research working across our institution and with other researchers and research centres in the School of Psychology.
Our Centre for Developmental Science (CDS) brings together researchers studying development and change in brain, cognition, and behaviour across the lifespan. We investigate how development varies between individuals and groups in response to social, environmental, and biological influences.
Our Centre for Human Brain Health (CHBH) supports cutting edge brain imaging modalities that enable us to provide new insights into neural and cognitive function in health and disease. We develop new hardware, software and applications for brain imaging and apply those to research with neurotypical and neurodiverse populations.
Members of our research clusters come from psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, health economics, epidemiology, geography, neuroscience, public health, sport and exercise science, social policy, education, neurology, physics, computer science and mathematics. We have prosperous partnerships across our University as well as with NHS trusts, education services and schools, regional and national governments, and key global academic and third sector collaborators.
