Full time starting salary is normally in the range £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974
Grade: 7
Full Time, Fixed Term contract up to February 2025

Background
Part of the CASTOR project, funded within the NERC Treescapes program, this role will contribute to the understanding of ecosystem engineers in shaping riparian carbon storage
Role Summary
Work within the CASTOR interdisciplinary project team
Investigate the role of ecosystem engineers in controlling riparian ecosystem carbon storage and dynamics
Work with the other team members to deliver
Explore additional funding and collaborative opportunities using the river network approach
Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
Apply and adapt modelling methods to investigate the role of ecosystem engineers in river and riparian ecosystem carbon storage and dynamics
Integrate these findings into publishable work, for presentation at conferences, etc
Collaborate with the wider interdisciplinary project team to develop potential overlaps in findings and applications where possible
Contribute to the supervision of students on related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
Undertake management/administration arising from research
Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
Person Specification
PhD and experience in modelling ecosystem dynamics and carbon balances, experience with river and riparian ecosystems desirable but not essential
Demonstrated experience in data analysis
Demonstrated experience in ecosystem or carbon model development, adaptation, or use.
Ability to communicate complex information clearly
Ability to work independently and use initiative in research projects
Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort, and also to generate collaborative opportunties
Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
